Hello all,

A group of us migraine bloggers have worked on a petition, addressing Congress's recent Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. This act will ban incandescent lighting beginning in 2012.

With the technology currently on the market, this means that incandescent lighting will most likely be replaced by compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs). Unfortunately for some of us - myself included - CFLs are a migraine trigger.

To help address this potentially huge problem, our petition asks Congress to amend their legislation to focus on energy efficiency standards, rather than prohibiting incandescent lighting completely.

We need your help! Please sign this petition, and forward it to those in your life. Without support of this petition, we don't have much hope of a world with friendly incandescent lighting in it.

The petition can be found here: Protect Migraineurs from CFLs

I also wrote a longer blog post on this subject, which gives a more thorough background on the intention of the legislation, and how our proposed amendment would meet the intention of the law while also meeting migraineurs' needs: Migraineurs and CFLs: A Crucial Public Health Issue

Our own Teri Robert also has written a SharePost on this subject: Lighting, CFLs and Migraine Triggers

Please take a minute to sign our petition. If you have any questions about what we're trying to do, please feel free to post them here and one of us can answer them for you.

Remember - this is for all of us! Thanks!

MJ,

Thanks for letting us know. I already signed it, but I will send it to all my friends and family to sign.

An interesting note: Zach did his 5th grade science fair project on fluorescent lights and incandescent lights and which one hurt your eyes when you read and how they affect nuerological disease.

He placed reading material in 2 simple boxes with lids, each with the different lighting. Did you know 10 out 10 people picked the fluorescent!! And during the science fair, nearly 50 people looked into the boxes and almost EVERYONE said the fluorescent lights hurt thier eyes.

I always knew fluorescent triggered my migraines but, I had no idea that it makes reading difficult for the average person.

Just thought I would share Big Grin Oh, and he won 3rd place!!

I signed, as much for the migraine trigger as for the bio hazard it creates when they break.

A doctor I think we all know by name was on the news at noon saying he's in the room only 10 minutes when he gets a migraine from a CFL light. Oh, what was his name? Lawrence?
