Perfume at work is only one of the topics Teri addresses in the letter included in this article:

Hi Mae!

Welcome to the forum family!

This issue is one I've dealt with myself - and it stinks in more ways than one!

I actually printed and posted the letter Teri wrote (Nut gave you the link for it) in my cubicle. It got so bad that if I walked in and PG (if you look through the forum, you'll see this is what we called her...short for Perfume Girl) was wearing the nasty triggering perfume, I would just leave and take a sick day. I was not going to sit around and wait for a Migriane to hit.

It is hard to deal with. I wish you the best of luck. I hope you have a supportive boss who will understand when you bring this to his/her attention!

Come on back and let us know how you make out!!

Ahhh...the unjoy of people at work who marinate in perfume, cologne, or other noxious fumes! I've got quite the battleground for that, being at the middle school level. Middle school larvae decide in no time that it's cool to:

a. drown themselves in whatever noxious substance they think smells great, but is actually quite vile, including colognes, perfumes, and body sprays.
b. buy such vile substances at places like the dollar store, in mass quantities.
c. spray down each other with such vile substances in the hallway, trying to literally soak each other, because they warped ideas of what's funny.
d. decide that more is more instead of less is more. GAG! RETCH! CHOKE!
e. decide it's splendid if they spray their lockers for "ambiance", which reeks for hours on end each time.
f. and so on.

After triggering enough times just because I had to step out in the hall for something or was trying to do my part in covering between-class hall duty, I went down to our principal. I explained the issues and the impact on me. I also pointed out that there were kids and adults that had allergies or asthma that shouldn't have to put up with or tolerate noxious environments. The next day, we had an announcement that all spray items were banished in the halls, period. It helped a lot to have a mandate through the office.
