Fredrick has been getting his way alot this week. Along with Ins problems I am having a little issue at work. I work for Wal-Mart and am always raving about how good they are to work for. However this week I have a slightly diffrent oppinion.
I have been on an intermittant family medical leave for 2 months. I have missed 2 days of work in the 2 months. I had to get the FMLA because they set up an attendance policy and I was about to go over the limits. Then if I did that they would put me on probation then fire me. So to protect my job I got the FMLA. So then when I went back to the Dr. she filled out the forms for 6 months. I then decided that I would knock back to 2 days a week instead of three. I want to work day shift now. I have worked the weekend night shift for 2 years. So when you get the FMLA papers filled out the Store Manager has top approve and sign it. When I went to do this he asked me if I could just go out on a regular full time FMLA I explained to him that I had been on this for two months and only missed 2 days. I do not need to be off work for twelve weeks because that is not the kind of medical problem I have. Then he said that2 days in 2 months was ok, so he signed my FMLA papers. When I showed him my paper that the co. gives every employee to mark what hours and days you are available to work he was not nearly as accomodating. The form states that you have to be available for 2 days a week. Or 16 hours a week. I explained to him that my dr wanted me to be on a regular schedule and not work at night. I also explained that my husband was going to be off now on the weekends and wanted me home. Then I reminded him that in the 2 years I have been there I have worked EVERY weekend and the night shift. So I had put that i would work wed, thurs between the hours of 9am and 6 pm. He said thatwas too limited. Hesaid it would really help if I could work till 8pm instead of 6pm. I told him ok even though I did not want to do that. Then he said it would really help if I could work fridays too. I then did that as well putting me back to 3 days a week wich was half of the point. I need to work 2 days not 3. Then he sais to me to let him go check with HR on the legal issues. When he came back he said you are only going to get 4 hours a week. I have been getting 20. I just did not say anything to him at that point because I thougt mabey I would really get more. However the more I thought about it the more it irritated me. What is the point of even working 4 hours a week anyway? That is $40.00 before tax. Am I crazy? or what? Bev & Fredrick |

PPS sorry I forgot something. When he told me I could only have 4 hours a week he said it was because I could not work the weekends. He said the other cashiers would whine and this way he could tell them that Yes, I do not work weekends but I am only getting 4 hours per week. Nice. Then why do we even have the forms to tell them when we are available.
I am really ticked off. I am still trying to get ahold of my sister, who has been a store manager at wal-fart to see if this is even legal. Bev & Fredrick |

Wow, Bev! Good luck getting your work issue straightened out. Whether or not what the manager did is legal, it sounds pretty obnoxious. It must be the week for dealing with such people. My guess? He's trying to get you to quit so he doesn't have to deal with your leave situation.

That is what my sister thought. She told me to call the labor board and ask them. She seemed to think that they were walking the legal tightroap and were flirting wioth a law suit. She also thinks that they will cut me to4 hours a week and then try to fire me.
the reason being that they require you to work 16 hours a week. I told her I am now available for 3- 8hr shifts so if they fire me I will sue them. Not that I haver the energy for that but that would just be wrong. I am going to wait and see what they do measn tiome I am going to file for dissability. If they fire me I will let ssi know and mabey they will deal with them. Bev & Fredrick |
