Hi

I'm having a lot of problems with my school right now. My son is in danger of failing several courses this marking period.

Honestly, I don't feel the school followed the 504 plan very much. They did follow a few things, but other things were never done or ignored.

I received a progress report a week ago with all good grades including many 100s and one bad grade. A week later I find out my son is failing. When I find out, I notice that at least one teacher is taking off points for the homework being late.

I don't have detailed records of his absences and lateness and homework being turned in when. I'm so worried about him being sick and school that I can't sleep. I can't eat. I'm experiencing a lot of anxiety.

Some of the teachers are treating him awful. I am pulling him out of school, but I wonder if I can do anything about the homework points. I, at least, have to ask.

I thought I had an advocate's phone number, but when I called they treat other disabilities and not migraine. They put me in touch with another place. I have researching the internet. I just don't know where to turn next. A lot of organizations have specific disabilities that they treat. So far, I haven't found one for migraine.

Does anyone know the name of an organization that would have an advocate for migraine or for 504 plans at school?

Thank You
Jean Ann

Jean Ann, I don't have any personal experience with this, but I believe a few of our members have used Binder & Binder as attorneys when filing for disability for migraine. That isn't exactly the same as your situation, but that may give you a place to start. LauraHOST comes to mind - I think she may have used them.

I am so sorry that Andrew's school is giving you so much trouble. Group Hug

Jean Ann - Diana Lee is a migraineur, attorney, and patient advocate - I don't know if she does this kind of work exactly, but you could find out - you can find her through her blog - Somebody Heal Me.

HI

Thanks for your input. I did call one of my neighbors who is an attorney.

He advised me to go to the school myself without an attorney first to try to work out the things that I want from them. If I don't get any satisfaction from that, then he will write them a letter and have a meeting. If it goes beyond that, he knows somone who works with our type of situation.

I will look into the names that you have provided me. It always to have several options available.

Thank you
Jean Ann

Thanks

That attorney/advocate emailed me this morning. I gave her a call and we had a lengthy conversation. I feel more empowered now. She gave me some new ideas. I'm feeling more positive about things.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank You.

Jean Ann -
I'm so glad you got some help! It's amazing how much better it feels just talking to someone who has some knowledge and ideas. It was just a hunch from me, but I'm glad it paid off!
