My ex-stepmother and I are still really close... she said a colleage, at her work, has a daughter who sees a migraine specialist in Houston... his name is Dr. Ninan Mathew, at the Houston Headache Clinic.

Anyone heard of him?

Thanks in advance,

Elizabeth Smiler

Elizabeth,

Why are we still not considering Dr. K? He is one of the best my dear and he is not that far from you.....

I hate to be a broken record sweetie, but if you are looking for someone who is going to help you, and work WITH you, why don't you try him?

You seem very unsatisfied with the results you are getting from your doctor(s) lately - trust me, I know the feeling as I'm sure about 99% of us here do! I don't know of one of us that walked into our fist neuro's office or HA's office and loved that person off the bat. I'm on my 6th now I think, and I finally - FINALLY!!!! feel like I'm getting somewhere.

It's your health, you know.

I don't know, Eileen... you're right, though - I SHOULD try Dr. K. He's in Dallas, right?

I think a lot of it has to do w/ my depression factor, right now... I seem to be kind of unwilling to do much, let alone look up that doc, check w/ my insurance, etc. I just need to get over that. Easier said than done, but - you're right. Smiler

Thanks.

Laura, thank you SO much.

I just got back from the neuro's...

She recommended I go to the Houston Headache Clinic, to see Dr. Mathews... I called - they DON'T take my insurance, so the consultation would be a flat $450.00, and around #1300 + if they admitted me to the hospital.

I feel like crying. I'm going to try to call that Dr. in Dallas... I forgot his name - hopefully I can find it on here, to see if he's cheaper...

Oh - and the Houston doc can't see me until APRIL!!! Frowner

Dr. Mathews is a member of the American Headache Society and many people have been treated by him. That's about all I have for you...I did meet him in June at the headache conference.

Elizabeth,

I'm excited you received a recommendation from your neuro's office. I know it is hard to take that first step but you did it Thumbs Up

It stinks they don't take your insurance though; I pay out of pocket expenses too. DH and I decided that the money being spent was an investment in me and my health and our future. It was a difficult decision to make but I'm glad I did it.

Please keep us posted on what you decide to do Group Hug

Elizabeth--

Please-oh-please consider going to Dr. K rather than Dr. Mathew. I went to him for 2 years finishing in 2006. He DID get my diagnosis right which nobody else seemed to be able to do, but he doesn't talk to you, no information about what he wants to do, and the many of the floor staff of the hospital he admits to treat migraineurs badly. I really had to work at it, but I finally found someone else to order my drugs. He's also super expensive for everything, especially botox.

I am now at the very best I've been in at least 15 years, taking fewer preventives and no longer on daily Zomig NS and Dr. Mathew had NOTHING to do with that!!!

Well, my father lives in Houston, so I'll be driving there the day before my appt., and he'll take me TO the appt (I hate driving in Houston!).

If I don't like this doctor, then I'll see the one in Dallas...

I actually DID call Dr. K, but nobody has returned my call... I left a messg. to set up an appt., and nobody returned it... that's not too good of a sign. Do they NOT want my money? LOL.

Dr. Randolph Evans is a good one in Houston, where I've seen a few. I got his name from this website & am seeing him now. I'm sure the other names are good, as well. I didn't have to wait 6 months to get an appointment with him.

Pugster--

I'm glad to hear Dr. Evans is good. He and Dr. Mathew wrote a really good textbook on migraines which is why I went to Dr. Mathew in the first place. I had been to 2 really good headache specialists in different parts of the country--I was so disappointed. I may make an appointment with Dr. Evans based on your recommendation.

Thanks--
Tracie

Thanks!
