I began this morning by talking to the office person at my neurologist's office--a different one than I've talked with in the past, and the conversation got comical at times. However, my situation is quite serious from my point of view, my migraine frequency is creeping up again, and something needs to be done.
My neurologist called back in the late afternoon. After some discussion, we agreed on the following: 1. I will stop taking the "extra" imipramine pill in the mornings, since it doesn't seem to be helping my migraines. I have to continue the imipramine at its prior level for my esophagus. 2. Add citalopram. I'm supposed to take 10 mg daily for a week, and then 20 mg. 3. I can use Amerge preventively for hormonally-triggered migraines, during the week of my period. Of course, I can not use it daily at other times because of the risk of MOH. Since my hormones are el wacko due to perimenopause, the first signal I usually have that my period is coming is a migraine, so I'll "miss" the first one. But then I can use the Amerge for the rest of the week. She preferred Amerge to Frova because of the shorter half-life. 4. It's OK for me to try some CoQ-10. I plan to wait to see if the citalopram helps before trying the CoQ-10, or I'll never know which one helped (if either one). 5. Continue the magnesium and Vitamin B-2, since they are improving the severity of my migraines, although not the frequency. I'm very glad to have a plan. As usual, she made sure to educate me thoroughly on everything related to this plan. While not threatened at all by my requests and questions, she was very willing to state her own opinions and preferences. |

Thanks for the update, Nut. Good to hear your neuro was willing to hear you out and make adjustments, without making too many changes at once. Keep us updated, ok?
