My migraine is also chronic (daily pain, nausea and vertigo), and my current specialist's treatment protocol is to wait until my preventives start working. Since February '07 I've tried Topamax, nortriptyline, cyproheptadine, gabapentin, verapamil and I'm retrialing Topamax. I have Imitrex or Frova to take with ibuprofen 2-3 times a week as abortives, as well as promethazine for the nausea. But that's it.

My specialist wanted to try me on Botox, which I was willing to try, but my insurance denied it. I was willing to appeal that decision, but my doc seemed to give up on me once Botox wasn't a possibility. For that and a few other reasons I'm changing doctors. Hopefully my new doctor will be more willing to work with me on ways to abort my current migraine cycle as well as work toward a more holistic treatment plan.

I don't envy the position that doctors with pain patients are in, trying to tread the line between legit patients, abusers and the DEA. But ethically, it should fall to their profession to solve the problem - not necessarily the individual practitioner, but the profession as a whole - and not migraineurs or other pain patients.

I feel for your sister. She needs help. So do I.

I mustn't suffer because of her, though. I divorced my ex-husband for substance abuse problems, so I can speak to them too.

Still haven't solved this, have we loved ones? Group Hug

I've got a fantastic migraine diary. When I gave it to Dr. Breathtakingly Arrogant, he just handed it back to me. Never opened it. Still doesn't care.

Hi Miriam sorry to hear of your experiences with the horrid neuro practice and you did do the right thing phoning and leaving a message on their answering machine. I feel we should all be writing letters and so forth to medicos that refuse to treat or not provide optimal treatment to get them to realise the results of their inaction.
I do hope you can find a better neuro practice.
