If I were willing to travel anywhere in the US (and forgetting for the moment the constraints of time, money and distance) to see a migraine/headache specialist or go to a particular clinic, who or where would you recommend?

Hello. Could someone PLEASE help me find a migraine doctor in the Birmingham (Alabama) area? I have been to the Ford clinic and to and The Headache Specialists in Birminhgham and UAB. They always "farm" me out other MDs.

this note is short because I am losing motor function., If it helps,
I will drive over an hour and at least 60 miles. Big Grin

Have either of you seen our list of patient-recommended headache specialists, HERE?

Nikki,

The patient recommended list of migraine specialists MJ gave you is a great place to start.

Based on my own personal experience, I recommend seeing Dr. John Claude Krusz in Dallas, Texas. I fly to see him every three months. I started seeing him in January of this year and I've already seen a dramatic change in my migraine pattern. You can take a look at the posts I did when I went to see him and also my improvements in the following links:

My second visit

My progress

I hope this helps Smiler

Nikki - I'm going to see Dr. Young at the Jefferson Headache Center in Phila next week. Several people on this forum use him and think the world of him. Teri Robert thinks he's terrific. I'm very excited. Let you know more after the fact.

LaDonna there is someone on the recommended list in Birmingham. Don't know if you checked yet. Good luck!

I see Dr. Krusz in Dallas, too, and I highly recommend him.

Hi Nikki,

I just had my first appt. with Dr. Cowan at the Keeler Center in California. If first impression count, I think he, the center, and the PA are super-fantastic.

Way to far for you to travel for you when other's are just as great and closer, but remember, you asked anywhere Wink

Anyways, that's my two-cents!!

I'm flying to see Jan Lewis Brandes in Nashville, and she's great. I'm seeing real improvement for the first time in 8 years. It's worth the airfare and hotel room.

Doctor Joel R. Saper of the Michigan Head Pain & Neurological Institute is who I am seeing recently. There are patients there from all over the US. It is a fantastic place and they have a very unique inpatient program if you need it, you can get in. Check it out.

Thank you for your suggestions everyone! I was asking because I am currently not seeing a doctor for my headaches (no health insurance right now, life in major chaos, and I planning to relocate) but plan to find a new one once I have moved. I have noticed that quite a few people here travel to see Dr. Krusz, and I since I will be looking for a new doctor soon anyway, I would concider traveling to him if he is highly recommended. I travel a lot to see my favorite band do shows all around the country, so why not be willing to travel to have the best chance at managing my headaches?

Dar, I may actually be heading back to southern california to live soon, so the doctor you recommended may be a possibility for me, So thank you!

Being that you are in MA, why not check out Dr. Sheftell too!

He is wonderful! He is in Connecticut and is now the only doctor at the New England Center for Headache. His office staff is super nice! That I know of, his office is only taking Blue Cross at the moment, but you can always call and check, like I said his office staff is really a pleasure to talk to.

Of course the doctors everyone else listed are awesome too!
