Hi all,
In my desperation this weekend, I googled a lot and found this headache clinic. I emailed and they responded quickly this morning. I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Hagen in 2 weeks! I know that several people have gone here in the past, but I haven't seen anything recently. Any comments? Positive, I hope? I'll be traveling from Charlotte.
Ironically, I could get a new patient appointment with them before I could get a follow up here with my neurologist! Hmmm...
Thanks!
Kim

Being cleeeeeeaaarrr over here in Montana, I have no experience there. But that's not going to stop me from rooting my heart out for you, hoping that you've stumbled upon "magic". Good Luck Do keep us posted.

Well, I just got home from my visit with the specialist, and I feel down. Not sure why...nothing went wrong, but I just am not sure it's worth the 90 mile drive. I guess I just didn't learn anything new or earth-shattering. If my neurologist here were more accessible, I would probably be as happy if not happier with her! Not that that's a bad thing, but I guess I was just expecting "more"....not even sure what I mean by that.

Oh well, you all probably get what I'm saying. In any case, I think I'm on the right track for now....with the Petadolex and the supplements. I'm also on Verapamil and haven't been on anything long enough to know if it's working, so we're just keeping with that (adding Baclofen when I get muscle tension...which I think will help).

She said no more than 4 days/month using an abortive. My rescue med will be the muscle relaxant or Phenergan. She talked about diet/exercise (which I definitely need). Right now I can deal with that, but I just finished Medrol, so I'm in a good place. We did discuss trigger therapy (since Medrol works so well for me).

All in all, a good visit, but again, not sure it's worth the long drive.

thanks for all the support here...I'm content for a pain-free day and a nice walk in the park with hubby!

Hi Teri,
I saw Dr. Christine Hagen...young, very nice...but, I know....4! Anyway...I'd LOVE to only "need" 4. She was happy I was taking the supplements (I'm taking the exact ones you listed plus Petadolex). Interesting visit...

Kim,
I'm sorry the appointment wasn't everything you wanted - I know how frustrating that can be!! I'd encourage you to give it a try for a couple of months and if it doesn't work or "feel" right to you to look for another specialist.

I know I saw two out of town specialists who are probably great for a lot of people, but just didn't give me the hope or help I needed. Don't give up!! Give this doctor everything you've got and if it doesn't help, then move on.

I'm surprised your muscle relaxer and anti-nausea are your rescue medicines - I'm now taking the muscle relaxer every night. I'd be taking an anti-nausea as needed if I could take one without getting the jitters. The only thing that works for me is Zofran and my insurance will not cover it. But then again, I'm not a doctor.

Don't give up!!!

Thanks for the encouragement! As I've thought more about it throughout the day, I think it was that I didn't feel like I was taken very seriously....like my headaches just weren't "that" bad or something. Hard to put my finger on it.

Anyway...you're right. I'm somewhat rational right now since I've been pain free for a few days....just wait ...LOL

Thanks again

Cyn-

Does your insurance cover the generic zofran? just thought i'd ask- I bet you've already gone down that path, but if not- it's out there. zofran also comes in IM form if you'd be comfy self-injecting... This might be a way to get the insurance to cover it- my insurance covers both the tablets and the vials, but would let me get both in one month, should I want to go that way...

just a thought...

Jamie,
I haven't checked into the IM - they've turned down the generic tabs. Apparently I need to be pregnant or have cancer to get it!! Confused

I will call them and ask about the injections. Thamks for the idea!
