If you ever have a bad esperience in the ER I highly recommend finding out who the head of the department is and sending them a personal letter regarding the care you recieved. Include the name of all staff, especially anyone you found to be especially helpful or not-helpful. DON'T sen this to the patient care rep, or if you do then CC it to them.
I did this once when the doctor was completely nasty, treated me really poorly then gave me a tylenol and sent me home. I got a letter profusely apologizing, plus telling me the ER head personally spoke with the doctor and told him the proper way to treat a patient, and that a letter went into his file during a probationary period. Although not wanting to make trouble for the doctor I didn't want anyone else to experience the terrible care I did! By the way, ironically the motto of that hospital is "We also treat the human spirit!" HA! |

And...the reverse is true as well. If you have a phenomenal experience at the ER, a letter o' kudos can be a good thing. A doc who is commended for a good job is deserving of the lift a good thank you can provide, and I think they're less likely to burn out if they feel the love, too.
