I just got back from my second visit with Dr. Krusz and it was unexpectedly productive. I had gone to get "tanked up" on IV Magnesium. But I started having a bad migraine around 4:30 a.m. the day of my appt. and was in bad shape by the time I got to his office.

During my first appointments in June, I didn't have any bad headaches, so it was good that Dr. K could see and treat me in the throes of a bad one. And this wasn't just a bad migraine, it was one of my worst kind--the ones which last for 3 days, and build up to a 9-10 by day 3 with nothing working to stop them and I have to use narcotics or go to the ER. (I have one of these every 2 to 3 months).

So--I have learned the joys of Ketamine IV. I also got my magnesium. And Dr. Krusz aborted the 10 rated headache of day 3 with DHE-45 before he gave me a great big dose of Ketamine. Definitely broke the headache.

Best of all, he worked out an abortive attack tx for these 3 day turkeys. We're switching to DHE which has always been my best abortive in the past, with a specific protocol to follow with the idea being we can stop 'em so they don't last 3 days.

For the last 5+ years nobody would let me have DHE. I guess they are just more comfortable with triptans, but I already rebound on every triptan I've tried, so they don't help much to actually break a 3 day headache although until recently I could get daily relief using them.

We now have several treatment plans we are going to pursue:

1. I'm going to start getting a weekly IV infusion of Magnesium at a local infusion center.

2. We're going to try to find a neurologist who wouldn't be afraid to use IV Ketamine or Propofol to abort migraines for me.

3. We are going to start the precertification phase to get human growth hormone approved for me to start taking it.

Sorry for the long post, but thought people might like to see some of the effective alternative treatments that can be available when you find the RIGHT doctor.

Tracie,

Thank you for the post. It is interesting and informative to hear with a specialist is doing. While I'm sorry you had the migraine, it's good you had one while there and could work out a plan.

It's great he is working out so well for you.

Take care,

Cindy

Your post is so encouraging. Thumbs Up It is awesome to hear how you both have worked out a plan. Plans always make me feel better. And so happy to hear he is willing to use DHE with you. Good Luck with your new regimen!

That's just awesome, Tracie! I'm so glad your visit was fruitful.

Dr. K. is the bomb. I actually had a dream I was at his clinic last night. Weird thing to dream about, but it was a happy dream. Big Grin

Great visit Tracie! I'm so happy for you. He is a fantastic doctor isn't he?

They called me on Friday and left me a message that he's going to be out of town the week I was scheduled to be there so I need to call his office tomorrow and reschedule my visit. It actually worked out to my benefit because Paulie has a high school orientation to attend and DH would have had to take off work to get him there.

I'm glad you guys have a treatment plan in place, especially for those three day migraines, those beasts can be difficult to treat.
