I wanted to share a blog post I recently wrote about communicating with doctors. I shared some tips about the information I bring with me to my appointments, and I thought it would be useful to all of you. Rather than repeat all of the information, I'll just link you to my post, which you can find HERE.

If anyone has more tips to share, I'd love to hear them!

Thanx

MJ this list has become my new homework! I plan on having appointment documents ready for the next appointment. Teri's book and your concise list of what to take makes me feel empowered when it comes to that next visit.

Maybe if we all did this doctors wouldn't have us fill out so many forms it seems like they don't look at anyways. (wishful thinking?) Instead they would look at our migraine resume, and get to what matters--relief for our misery.

MJ

I've been starting to work on updating all my stuff to take to Dr. Krusz, and I'm going to unabashedly steal the way you have yours organized!!! Wow.

Thanks

Loves it MJ!!!!

The only thing I can add (maybe this would be once you've formed a relationship with said doctor) is a copy of Teri's book? I know a few forum members who do this....

I was going to give a copy to a "fired neuro" so she could educate herself - but I never went back.

This is of course if they have not already read the masterpiece! Big Grin

Please feel free to steal my list! I'm glad if it helps you. Eileen, I think that's a great suggestion about Teri's book, though I think I would wait until I formed more of a relationship with my doc.

I do sometimes bring Teri's book with me, since I have it marked up. It's also a not-so-subtle way of saying that I'm an educated patient who advocates for her own needs!

MJ, I love your list... I definitely need to try some of those! I have never made a list of my lifestyle changes! It always comes up in conversation, "Sometimes people find it helpful to try..." "Oh I tried that in the fall.." How nice to make a list ahead of time!

I read the article you linked to..
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18459012?dopt=Abstract

Can I just say... hello?? Ask open-ended questions? This seems so obvious I want to crack somebody over the head. Devil Come on! Of course that's better!! I guess it's good they're bothering to do research and show how detrimental it is to be a poor doctor... but it seems like everyone should have already known!! Head Banging

Thanks again for the great list MJ, well done!
