Do you see a specialist? Are you happy with him/her???? Please recommend! I really need to find someone new to try. There is one person listed on the recommended list for MN but she is not a specialist. I would travel anywhere in MN or western Wisconsin. How about the Mayo, has anyone tried there? What was your experience? Any good docs there?

Thanks a bunch!
Amy :-)

Thanks, Nancy. There is only one listed and she is not a specialist :-( So I was hoping someone here could recommend someone they are seeing. Someone who understands migraines and what we deal with--Don't we all dream of finding that person (hehe).

The doctors that are listed here totally understand Migraine disease or they wouldn't be on our list FYI

Thanks, Nancy. Maybe I will have to give her a try then! I was just worried because it said...

Comments:
Dr. Chaisson isn't actually a headache and Migraine specialist, but more than one Migraineur has done very well under her care and they highly recommend her.

It worried me because I was previously seeing a neurologist that was very good but I became too complicated for him and he referred me to a specialist--he doesn't work well with people, doesn't change my meds, doesn't work with me at all! Basically has no time for anyone. So it worried me that she is not a specialist because I wasn't sure she could take on my complicated of issues? I guess I won't know unless I give it a shot though.

Thanks,
Amy :-)

I live in Rochester, MN and work at Mayo Clinic.

My neurologist is Dr. Ruple Laughlin. I've only seen her once but I really liked her. She doesn't specialize in migraine, but she completed her training a couple of years ago...so she is really up on the new migraine treatments, etc. She sent a long list of various recommendations back to my PCP for us to try and assured me she is available if I or he have any questions.

I used to see a Dr. Swanson at Mayo Clinic...he's the main migraine guy - but it was several years ago and my migraines have changed a lot since then. I did like him too. He is still there.

It can take some time to get into Mayo - but it is a top notch facility. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Also - I'd love to meet for a tea/coffee if you do come this way.

Regarding Dr. Chaisson, she does not restrict her practice to headache and Migraine. Thus, she does not meet our criteria to be deemed a specialist. Please note, however, that if she had not been recommended by people with difficult Migraines, she would NOT be on the listing. If I were in that area, I'd at least giver her a shot. Otherwise, we would not list her, trust me. We take that directory very seriously.

To be honest, NO doctor at the Mayo, Rochester, has ever been recommended to us as a good specialist. That doesn't mean they're not, but so far, those who have seen them would not recommend them. I've also heard from at least half a dozen Migraineurs, that they have such a rigid screening process, that they were denied an appointment.

The generally long periods of time between my Migraines are the result of working with a Migraine specialist to refine my preventive regimen. You can see my current regimen HERE.

Dr. Chaisson is a neurologist at Noran Clinic which I think is the only headache clinic in the Twin Cities. I go there. I see Dr. Golden and Char Farmer (nurse practioner). I am very frustrated with my doctor....he doesn't seem to have time for me. The good part to this clinic is they have infusion centers Monday - Friday. It takes about 3 hours to be infused. Their migraine protocal is 1000 mg Depacon, 1000 mg solu-medrol, Zofran and Ativan.

I am currently searching for a better neurologist though.
