I just got back from my doctor's appointment today. I really like my new neurologist. He is way better than my previous doctor. I feel like we are team in my health care.

Anyways, we decided to increase my Topamax. We are starting with 25 mg for 2 weeks and increasing it 25 mg every 2 weeks until I reach 100 mg more in the morning. I'm currently taking 200 mg. I've been able to tolerate the side effect so far. Hopefully, that will still be the case.

He also change my abortive medication to Maxalt. I've not tried this medication, yet. He also told me to use it with Aleve to help with the body aches that I get when I have a migraine.

I'm glad you like your new neuro!

I find it interesting that he has you increasing your a.m. dosage of Topamax and not your p.m. - do I have that right or are you increasing both in the long run?

Did you get samples of the Maxalt to see how it works for you first?

Let us know how the Maxalt is and of course how you handle your Topamax titration as well!!!

Good Luck

He didn't give me samples of the Maxalt. I don't think he had any in the office.

I wasn't taking Topamax in the morning. I've only been taking it at night so he is now having me take it in the morning, too. My previous neurologist is the one that had me only taking it at night.

Gotcha!

Good luck with both my dear! I hope they work for you!!! Plus the increase of 25mgs every 2 weeks may make it a little easier too!

That's what I did with my Amitriptyline when I started. I was at 10mgs for two weeks, then went to 20mgs two weeks later. Worked for me!

I hope you get great results with zero side effects!!!

Another great doctors appointment, congrats!!

I bet you already know that topamax works best taken 12 hours apart, a split dosage right? Nice slow increase? Good job, new doctor!! Big Grin

Congrats on a super appointment!!

You know you hear so many bad reports of side effects, it's almost scary to be taking Topamax. Me, however, I take 75mg bid and can't really recognize any side effects that I can actually blame on the Topamax. I think a little slower, but I was doing that before we restarted Topamax, so maybe getting older is to blame????

Hope you're more like me than anybody else!!

Awesome! I think it helps so much to be under the care of a knowledgeable doctor who inspires your confidence.
