I've been seeing a neurologist for almost a year now for my migraines. In fact, he is the Dr. that diagnosed me. For about 12 years my migraines went undiagnosed, so I'm very grateful to him. He has me on a medication to control my vertigo and Topamax for the migraines. At my last appointment, we discussed increasing my dose of Topamax again but he said he wasn't sure I was going to be able to tolerate much more due to side effects. He was right, I'm not. But the way he left things he said to come back in 3 months or even 6 if I'm better. I really don't feel like I'm that much better yet. I seem to develop a tolerance to the Topamax after awhile and then I'm back to having the same symptoms again.
Anyway, the point to all this is that I know from this forum that I'm not getting the best migraine treatment and that if I went to a specialist I may get better results. I've read all the threads on this forum about Dr. Brandes who is on the patient recommended list and I didn't read anything much positive about her. Also I have a friend who has migraines who has seen her and she didn't have a good experience. But she is local and I am wondering if I should at least give her a try before going outside my local area? Does anyone else have any experience with her? Peggy |

Peggy,
I know we did have one forum member, Gretchen (gwp), who saw Dr Brandes and was very happy with her. Unfortunately, Gretchen passed away last year, and won't be able to offer you her experience directly, though she posted quite a bit in the threads here. I'm not sure if any of our current members are seeing her. -MJ my blog: http://rhymeswithmigraine.blogspot.com "What will you do, if it does not turn out how you expect?" "I do not know. Nor shall I worry about it until it happens. I still have an action left to take; until I have exhausted it, I shall not despair." - Robin Hobb, Assassin's Quest |

MJ,
Thanks for your response. I knew none of our regulars knew this Dr., but I thought maybe a reader who didn't post might know her. Oh well, I'll just have to decide what to do. Peggy |
