im here! thanks for everyone's support, it means so much to me. especially since my husband is out of town so im flying solo this weekend. my son is napping so i thought i would drop you all a note.
im feeling much better physically! so much better. the steriod pack started to work and today i even took my little man to the park.
however, i am furious at this doctor. i started to write him a letter and am just reviewing it. ill post it here for your comments. im also writing one to his boss and the ama, licensing board, whomever will listen! the dr. that owns the urgent care place is really nice that is why i go there and its really close to home. but it was his day off. so i got the #######!
i was going to get all down and depressed over this but i won't let him have that power over me too. imagine this guy being someone's husband or son? ahhhh!
thanks again everybody, hugs
ps yes, i see two neuro's
gotta run, baby waking up!

So glad you are feeling better, Jennifer!

Have you ever noticed that the last four letters of the word "courage" spell "rage?" Anger gets things changed that need to be changed.

JJ,
I have been out of town the last few days and just read your post. What an awful experience for you. I am glad to hear at least you are now feeling well.

How strange this doctor can make rules that he does not dispense narcotics without seeing a patient first. What kind of care is that? You were treated so horribly. He had your chart. He saw how you were usually treated and the frequency.

Please let us know what kind of responses you get back from the clinic. Take care.

JJ, so sorry to hear you had such an awful experience at the urgent care. Good for you for standing up for yourself and what you needed - while you were in awful pain, at that.

What does that hicupping oath say? First do no harm. Sounds like he did plenty of harm that is. Mabey since there was nothing he could do for you he would not mind not charging you for that visit.
What a sweetheart!!!

JJ sorry to hear of your horrid experience with that GP. He had no right to treat you like that. And you did have your medical file there which would have outlined your migraine condition and thus proof you aren't a drug addict.
Good on you for standing up to him and also for writing a letter of complaint. We need to complain when doctors are so horrible to us (I did to the state medical complaints body about one and even though they were a toothless tiger at least it could stick a bomb under her for other patients).
Let us know how you get on and glad to hear the steroids have helped.
Also I agree with the vision and speech problems next time present to ER.

JJ,

Now that there's some time passed since this happened, there is one thing I hope you'll keep in mind. This doctor was absolutely out of line, but he did say one thing that makes absolute sense. If you are having the worst Migraine of your life, you should go to the ER instead of urgent care since urgent care cannot do imaging.

Actress Sharon Stone summed it up nicely on the Oprah show in 2004 when she said, "If you have the worst headache you've ever had, go to the hospital because by the time you get to the hospital, you're as far gone as you wanna be." She had experienced what she thought was the worst Migraine of her life, and had she not arrived at the hospital when she did, would have died from an aneurysm. The aneurysm wasn't related to her Migraines, but she had mistaken the symptoms it caused for a Migraine attack.

Please don't think I'm taking the doctor's side here. What I want is for you to be safe. OK?

I am sorry you were treated poorly. I was in the ER yesterday at 0400 after spending all night vomiting and in such pain I could not even lay down to sleep. My husband took my in ( I usually never let him do that) and after the ER doctor came in asked me my problem and did not even get a history sent in a nurse with imitrex. Well I can not take imitrex as I have had a stroke. Then she sent her in with toradol and vistaril. I had already maxed on toradol but the nurse said it did not matter. Well the vistaril stopped the nausea but I was still crying my head hurt so bad. The doctor refused to come back in a see me then the nurse discharged me. Of course being Sunday there was not much else I could do. SO now I am going to see my primary doctor today. I still have a migraine. I filed a formal complaint with the hospital this am. I hope that you feel better and also that you receive better care. One thing that bothers me the most is that I am an ER nurse and would never allow anyone to go home crying in pain.

It's a great thing you filed a complaint with the hospital regarding your inadequate ER care. Did you know that in order to treat Medicare and Medicaid patients, hospitals are required to be certified by an organization known as JCAHO? One of the things they must accept as part of their certification is the patient's Bill of Rights which INCLUDES the right to adequate pain relief. Your rights were violated! The hospital should follow this up, or they run a chance that you might file a complaint with JCAHO, the Joint Commission of Hospital Accredition. When a patient is mistreated so often as we migraineurs are, it's a least some small consolation that the doctor doesn't have the law on his side. I've actually invoked my patient rights a couple of times. Can't say I had a happy doctor, but I had a letter from my neurologist, so deserved to get my drugs, and frankly I don't care if his feelings were hurt!!!!!
