I called the secretary last Tuesday and left a callback request for the nurse explaining what I needed. Got a callback from the nurse on Thursday and explained again what my problems were. Got a callback yesterday with an answer. Four business days to get an answer. Good thing it wasn't an emergency...and my favorite skillet emoticon is still vanished. Head Banging

He says no to the Neurontin and the nurse (whom I adore, actually) scolded me for taking the old pills that I had. I took the scolding--I deserved it. She softened it saying she understood that I was trying to break that migraine. She reminded me that I had tremendous pain meds and that was it until my appointment in June, so he said. I told her I didn't WANT more pain meds. I didn't want the pain meds I had. I wanted PREVENTION, the more aggressive, the stronger, the tougher, the better the way I see it.

I asked what he would say to increasing the Topamax? She called me back later and said that yes, he would agree to upping it to 150 mgs per day. I'll take one additional 25 mg at night for a week and then one additional 25 mg in the mornings to reach three in the AMs and three in the PMs.

So that's where I am. On phone call in 17 months. Took four days to accomplish it. Made a little progress. I see him again in June.

*sigh* As soon as SSA makes their decision... Devil

I hope increasing the Topamax might make a difference for you. It will be nice to at least know you're trying a slightly different approach while waiting for your appointment in June.

I'm glad they were finally able to get back to you. It's ##### frustrating to be kept hanging when you have a call into your doctor's office.

MW,
Well yes, I'm glad the issues you were having were not acute and needing immediate answers. But you did get answers. I hope the changes are positive for you my dear. Let us know.

Take good care,

Cindy

MW--

I sure agree that your doctor must use an hourglass schedule call backs, but I will say DON'T RESTART A PREVENTIVE OUT OF YOUR MEDICINE CABINET WITHOUT YOUR DOCTOR'S PERMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last weekend, I had a migraineur stop by wanting me to loan her some Topamax that had last been refilled in 20006. She decided to just stop taking her Paxil (needs to be tapered down--you shouldn't just stop taking it) and restarted her Topamax at 50mg twice a day using leftover Topamax!!!!! This could have been a serious medical situation for her!!

I saw her again on Sunday and it looks like she got away with it so far, but NO ONE should take those kinds of chances. The medications we take are potent antipsychotic, anticonvulsant drugs, et al. We can, in our lack of medical education actually kill ourselves!!

Sorry about the soapbox

I spoke to SSA two months ago. They have everything they need from all the docs they need. They were just waiting for OPM to make their decision. Well, OPM made their decision two weeks before they sent my letter dated March 31st. *taps finger impatiently*

Eileen--oh yes, and I've got another migraine spec already lined up, a stellar physician. Younger Assistant Offspring used to babysit for his son. His wife is an RN who also writes. They are WONDERFUL, beyond words wonderful.

Valerie--didn't surprise me a bit that this doc wanted me to take Topamax again even though I had a HEAT STROKE last time I took it. He's...just breathtakingly arrogant like that.

Diana--whatcha bet I'll be able to talk him into the Neurontin when I see him in person, huh?

Laura and justgreatful--I'm just impatient when it comes to the US government. Years of people being impatient with me, I guess. Mad

Cindy--hun, I think the sun gets brighter when you smile. Thank you for the encouragement right now.

Tracie--thanks hun. I've posted a couple of other threads about this particular situation. I'm ok.
