Hi Joyce,

I live in a small town in Illinois and our high school has celebrated May Day for about the last 90 years in an event called May Fete. It is primarily an event for the girls although more boys are participating in the last few years. The freshman, sophmore and junior girls do dances to current music and then at the end of the evening the senior girls wind the maypole. May Fete and winding the maypole was the highlight (besides graduation) of my senior year. We are the only school in our area does anything of the sort.

The Episcopalian elementary school does the maypole thing. I think they're the only one that does. May is the month where the Catholic church honors the Virgin Mary. We have special flowers and services.

For a while I couldn't remember what May Day was I was thinking it was when Kid's of friends would deliver flower's/cards to their friends and ring the door bell and then hide so they who at the door wouldn't see who gave them the flower/cards. We'll at least that's what it was when I was growing up. It seems to have changed since then.
