Migraine

I know many find this silly but I'd appreciate a prayer or two. My cat Bob (the love of my life!) has been gone for two days now. I'm sick with worry. My son just spent an hour searching in the nature area behind our house but no luck. Bob did this one other time and when he finally came home he was so sick he could barely walk. He had eaten something he shouldn't and ended up with bacterial hepititsis. (sp?) Anyway, we almost lost him then. I have been crying my eyes out and now I've got a migraine! On top of everything, my husband is in Korea until Saturday night so I'm dealing with this by myself. Thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry, Hoopsky. Do put signs up around the neighborhood. As low-tech as it sounds, it is actually one of the most successful methods of getting a pet back. Also check daily with your local pound and/or shelter, and consider posting a flyer in those places.

Certainly not silly. That would be my worst nightmare.

Awww, Hoopsky, I am SO sorry to hear about this. I hope this ends quickly- with him safe at home.

I understand totally. DH and I are owned by 3 cats, and they're our children. If something like this happened, we'd be distraught until they came home-- and burning up all of the gas in both of our car tanks putting up signs EVERYWHERE.

Bob missing and you being upset is not silly at all. I am owned by 3 cats and if any if them are MIA for any length of time I am frantanic.

Nutcrackers suggestions are good. I would call or go out to the pound daily. Our local pound does suggest a personal visit. I did get Autumn back 3 times from flyers around the neighborhood.

You have my positive thoughts and prayers for you and Bob. The weather is good so he is not out in nasty weather.

its absolutly not silly! Pets are part of our families. I have had my cat missing for several days. It is quite stressful!

Summer before last, my young cat got out. He was only about 8 months old at the time. It was 104 for a spell of 2-3 days. by the end of the 2nd day I was quite distraught! I knew it was way too hot and with no fluids.. I was very upset.

I was sitting there praying about it and something told me to check yet again by the back fence. On the other side was a big field, and an old cherry tree that was taken over by blackberries. I went back there and started calling (again) and this time I heard a weak meow. He was laying under the tree caught up in the blackberries. We think he had fallen out of the tree, and was too sore and weak to fight his way out. He also had signs of dehydration and heat stroke, and wasnt walking well but a couple days days later he was good as new!

Anyway my whole point is the Man upstairs hears ya and cares for the lil pets as much as us! If its ment to find your Bob, he will be found! Hang in there hun

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. for your prayers. Bob showed up about 20 minutes ago. He had to be coaxed into the yard with tuna but my son was finally able to grab him. He seems okay but is acting all scared. I put the flap on the dog door so he can't get out for a while, though I know I can't keep him in forever. . . he'll hate that. He refuses to accept the new puppy so I'm not sure what to do. I'm just glad we found him and he's alive. Thank you all for your support.

Are you crate training the puppy? Maybe have puppy in the same room with Bob when he's in the crate and contained might help for a while. It's been so long since I had a puppy to introduce to the household with my older cats I'm having difficulty remembering what I did. I know a friend of mine kept her puppy out of the room where her cats liked to hang out (used a baby gate) so the cats could have "quiet time" without Johnny wanting to play. They could see him, he could see them, but he couldn't play with them. That worked well I know.

Again, I'm so glad he's home.

I'm so glad, Hoopsky. Discuss with your veterinarian how you might go about introducing the cat and the puppy to each other. Also, you might check if one of your local shelters has a service to advise owners on animal behavioral issues.

Maybe we are making progress. Bob came home at about 5:00 AM this morning and acted close to normal for him. He announced his arrival home LOUDLY which is his normal behavior. He hasn't done that since the puppy arrived so it was nice to see him behaving more like himself. He came into my bedroom (the puppy was in the crate at the foot of my bed), jumped up on me and let me pet him for several minutes. That is another thing he normally does that he hadn't done in a while. He looked at the puppy in the crate and then walked up and plopped on my stomach. After our petting period, I got up and fed him some special soft food he loves. By then the puppy was making all kinds of noise to go out so I let her outside. When she came back in, Bob and her went nose to nose. Bob hissed but I quickly picked him up and put him on the top of his tree post and grabbed the puppy and put her back in her crate. When I went back to check on Bob, he had gone outside and was gone again. At least he came home and did a few things like normal. One tiny step forward!

Those all sound like great steps.

I remember my first dog I introduced to older cats. They were on a bed. She came bouncing in (sheltie/border collie mix) and stopped and politely sniffed them. The cats didn't run, but sniffed back. All of a sudden the older gray cat Lisa just hauled off and whacked the poor dog across the nose. Just had to establish the pecking order, and she, Lisa was at the top!! They all got along great. But boy was the dog surprised.

I know how you feel about the dog vs cat. I adore my dog, but my cats are my babies.

Oh, I was so happy to read Bob came back!!!

I know how I am about my cats. I live in a studio apt, so they are totally indoor cats, but I still can't go to bed until I know where both of them are!

The hissing thing is funny.... I agree w/ Cindy. Bob is just trying to make sure new puppy understands his proper place on the totem pole... the bottom!!! hahah!! What I like to call "first cat syndrome". Everything is their's and other animals need to respect that.

I know when I got my oldest if she could have run away when I brought home a kitten, she would have. She hid under the bed for about 3 days, and wouldn't let me pet her for about 2 weeks. She still gives me dirty looks sometimes....

Oh, yes! Bob is establishing his place with the puppy!

Last Fri., DH brought a 6 month old Dachshund puppy home. Sallie and the Dachshund were like a cheap soap opera - love at first sight, running to each other across the back yard.

It took Banzai about 4 days to whap Winston across the nose (Banzai is declawed, but outweighs Winston by about 4 lbs.) Chloe, our shy girl, still hides from Winston. If Banzai were not an inside cat, he probably would have taken off for a few days.

We joke that our Black Lab, Ebony, has her own squeaky toy in Winston. He's the first small dog I've ever shared a home with.

And, yes, God hears our prayers for our furry friends. He eased Romeo and Lionel towards the Rainbow Bridge, as He did with many other "critters" over the years that I've prayed over. And, He's healed many a critter of mine, too.
