My Boo Bear, my middle daughter Mary's Black Lab, died early this morning. She had acute liver failure. Her bilirubin was 14, when it should have been around 0.5. Acute liver failure also killed her son, Chuckie (Kat's dog), last June.
Kat took Boo to the vet yesterday. The vet, Dr. Susan Haynes, called me around 8:20 this morning. I called Matt (DH) and then called Mary. SAhe and I had a good cry together. Mary is a senior at Clemson U., about 4 hours away. I then signed out from work - "Death in the family - funeral arrangements," and went over to Sallie's high school and told her. Boo will be creamated, as per Mary's instructions. Boo was the second most beautiful Black Lab I've ever seen. Her sire was the most beautiful. Mary picked her out & trained her. She was a fantastic retriever & a great house dog. Now, we just have Ebony, Boo's daughter & Chuckie's sister. Oh, and the 4 cats. Drat, this hurts! Rebecca |

I am so very sorry for your loss.
I agree with the "death in the family - gotta go!" It really doesn't matter - a pet is part of the family and deserves time off as such! My thoughts are with you! I'm so sorry for your loss, Rebecca. Pets are a very important part of the family, and it always hurts so much to lose a good one.

Boy, Rebecca, that's terrible! And it sure is sad that Mary had to hear the news from so far away...
You and your family are in my prayers! |

I'm so sorry for your family's loss. We lost our family cat when I was 17, and I truly grieved for a long time. She was part of our family and my best friend growing up!

Oh honey, I am so sorry...
The pain you're all feeling must be terrible. Once, I had a dream that IRS started allowing a special tax deduction for the cost of keeping a pet. I even dreamt exactly what the form looked like and everything. It was a Sch A deduction, only one pet per dependency exemption qualified (and one for each person in the filing status), but you could claim the cost of food and vet bills and it was wonderful. Rebecca,
I am so sorry for your family's loss...Boo Bear is in my thoughts and prayers along with your family. I lost my doberman, Weasel, to cancer over the summer. She was 11 and we didn't even know how bad she was, our vet said it was arthritis and gave her some pain pills. Then one evening she just had a look about her. Weasel knew it was her time to move on to a place where she could run and play again. We prepared the kids the best we could before we took her in for her final diagnosis. The cancer had spread and nothing could be done. I haven't cried so hard in years. She was my rock when my first husband died, always by my side. Always nudging my hand to be pet and forever by the bed when I am sick. We finally got a new puppy and no lie, I can see my Weez in him. The looks are the same. Full of love and compassion. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble, I still cry about it. My heart to you and yours.
