Constipation. Yuck.

I had my colonoscopy yesterday, and got to chat with my GI doc beforehand. I told her about my constipation, and how it had gotten worse with verapamil. She said that was a very common side effect, and recommended Miralax as a fiber supplement. From what she said about it, I can't wait to try it.

Her group has 17 docs and is the largest in Mississippi and one of the largest in the Southeast. They've got a research group, and they're researching using verapamil for irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea. She said that the verapamil was preventing the diarrhea. Amazing.

Don't try this at home without talking to your Doc.

Interesting.

Fortunately I haven't had that experience myself taking verapamil.

Verapamil does #### a little bit of my energy though (a common complaint taking most BP medications from what I've heard).

I can definitely believe that about verapamil. I was taking it for awhile and it had a constipating effect, for sure. Bleck. I stopped taking it. Who needs that? I also did not appreciate other side effects so 'it hadda go'. Ah well, c'est la vie.....

Gretchen,

Glad you got through your colonoscopy.

I feel your constipation woes. I have been taking Verapamil since August and have had constipation since then. I eat a high fiber diet, which if I just leave it to that, I am still up a creek. I also take the fiber supplement that you can bake with/drink, Fibersure, that is helps. I've also found that prunes can be helpful too along with everything else.

For me the Verapamil has been a Godsend for my NPDH, so the side effects are worth it.

Good luck with the new supplement! Keep us updated on if that is helpful for you. I'd be interested to know.

Kelly
