Has anyone ever had a problem with their eye and hand twitching while taking Elavil? I have been taking 50 mg./day and had no side effects, but my dr. raised my dosage 5 days ago and I started having this problem yesterday. I called the dr. and the nurse said this probably was a side effect that would go away in a few days. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks! Michelle |

Hi Michelle
I'm not sure about this side effect, but you could do a google search and see what turns up. Good to hear you called the doc. As your body adjusts to the med dose the symptom may subside. If they are too troublesome for you, please discuss it with your doctor again. |

Hi - this question is for the person (Michelle) who posted about the eye and hand twitching, wondering if it was caused by the Elavil. I think I also developed an eye twitch - it was the same week as when I started the elavil and went away a couple weeks after I stopped. Did you stay on the elavil and if so, did the twiching subside or go away? I do not suffer from migraines, but from IBS, and the elavil helped that, at least I could eat a little more and was more calm. But I am worried that the twitching will come back/ get worse if I go back on it....
Thanks for any input into this. I hope you are feeling better. Anna |

Hi Anna!
Welcome to MyMigraineConnection! If the symptoms you are experiencing on the Elavil aka Amitriptyline are bothersome, you should let your doctor know. Uncontrolled facial movements is listed as a side effect, but not twitching specifically....I'm not sure if that is what they mean by uncontrolled facial movements or not?? Welcome to the forum! We look forward to getting to know you better. Michelle ~ I have no experience with Elavil, so I don't know about the twitching, but besides asking your doctor, you might ask your pharmacist, as well.

Andrew is taking 100mg of Elavil. He has not experienced any side effects. I'm not sure about that particular side effect. I hope you will be feeling well soon. Jean Ann |

Hi Michelle,
How is the twitching going? As we adjust to new medications, sometimes potential side effects may diminish. Let us know how you are making out, ok? |

Hi Anna and welcome.
I went off Elavil because it wasn't working anyway. I have been off it for about a year. As the dosage went down, the eye twitching went away. I am not sure how much help this is. Good luck! Michelle |
