Zonegran users what has been your experience? What has been a therapeutic dose for you? I am ranping up to 300 mg over the next 3 weeks and am to remain at that dose; So far at 200 mg it is not preventing the migraines. Thanks for your input in advance.

Good Evening,

I titrated up to 200 mg over 4 weeks. I was not able to stay on it. When I started 200 mg I developed rather profound fatigue in my arms and legs, depressed, and my brain was very fuzzy. It was difficult for me to have a clear thought. And it was not preventing migraines. After discussion with my doctor we felt I should stop it. The side effects did not start for me until I got up to 200 mg every night.

Oh, I did want to add one more item about the website. There is a search function on the top right of the screen. I've used that myself to search on old threads, especially medications. You might find that helpful. I did that when I started the Depakote.

I know there are forum members using Zonegran with great sucess, please don't let my lack of sucess turn you away. Each person is different. We are fortunate there are so many types of medications to try, though it can be frustrating to get through them all.

I was able to get up to 300 mg rather quickly with very little ill effect (unusual for me, the queen of freaky rare side effects).

The only positive for me has been a noticable decrease in the intensity level of my 7-10 (pain scale) migraines...(which is really the best benefit I've experienced thus far on any migraine preventitive out of 20+, Depakote being the only other...so this is really quite a compliment to Zonegran).

The negatives have been very few, mainly just unusual sleep patterns/insomnia (which could also be caused by the altering of my other meds).

Good luck!! Smiler
