I have been taking flexeril for about 2 weeks now, just at night and I have only had 2 migraines which is a huge deal because I was getting them everyday. But just recently I am starting to notice that I am extremely irritable and depressed. I am getting off of it, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience with flexeril? I feel really bloated all the time too, maybe this is from the medicine?

Hi Laciearly and welcome to the forum! I'm so glad you found us and that your migraines are improving
I don't recall having any problems with Flexeril, but that's just me. I recommend calling your doctor and letting him/her know how you're feeling. Does your doctor know your not going to take it anymore? Here is some information you can review: Flexeril Good luck, let us know what your doctor says, k? Welcome again!! I recall taking flexeril quite awhile back and not having much trouble with it except EXTREME sleepiness!
I now take Norflex, which is in the same class. I do notice a little restlessness when it's worn off, but I can generally get through it fine. I'd sure let your doctor know and perhaps you can ask if there is another muscle relaxant you can try instead? My feeling is that anything that changes your mood for the worst is generally not a good idea, since we're all statistically more likely to get depression, and why tempt fate? Especially when you have other options. I do like my Norflex. It's an abortive for me, not a daily med, but it takes the edge off! Lynne |

I had this prescribed for me years ago as a muscle relaxant for my shoulder, and I had the same symptoms you are describing-a "bloated" feeling, plus extreme fatigue. I hope you find something that will work better for you!

Hi Lynne,
Norflex,a muscle relaxer, may thankfully help stop your Migraine attack, but it isn't an abortive, rather a rescue medication. Some people use these medications when abortives fail or cannot be used. We have a great article calledPreventive, Abortive, and Rescue Medications - What's the Difference? you may find helpful. I occasionally use Flexeril. Puts me right to sleep!

If you don't like the Flexeril, ask about Skelaxin. I'm using it now, and it doesn't make me sleepy. Zanaflex did. Flexeril didn't, but after a couple of years it started giving me extreme dizzy spells. So dizzy I'd fall and couldn't walk. They got better after I stopped the Flexeril.
My specialist has me take Skelaxin when my pain is between 1 and 3. When it gets to 4 to 6, I'm to hit it with Imitrex plus a whopping dose of naproxen (Anaprox). I can only do that 3 days a week, but the Skelaxin can be used every day without worrying about rebound, according to my specialist. I haven't had rebound problems from it. Gretchen in Mississippi |

Nancy,
Thanks for the reminder about abortive vs. rescue meds. Since I now have a mix of abortives and rescue meds, I tend to lump them all together in my mind. But you're right - the Norflex takes the edge off the pain and knocks me out a little bit while the other meds do their thing. Boy, do I miss those triptans that I'm not allowed to take anymore. They worked so much faster than what I have now! Oh well. Better to be safe. Lynne |

You said that you got dizzy from Flexril. Was that a issue early on or later after you had taken it for awhile? I was given Flexril for my TMJ, so I am suppose to take it regullary. So your post makes me wonder about it. I have had horrible balance and dizziness the last six monthes. Mary in NM |
