I have been taking Inderal and Amitriptyline as preventives for a little over 2 years now. It has worked to keep down the pain level in the Migraines I do get. Lately I have been getting more low grade Migraines. I have yet to find a true trigger. My neuro suggested adding Topamax to the cocktail if I find it is not working as well any longer. Has anyone had experience with taking these 3 preventitives together? My neuro appt. is next week and I want to know what exactly I should be asking him. I only get to see him a couple of times a year.
Thanks so much... |

khrystaa-
i take all three. everyone reacts differently to medications so your experience with topamax might not be the same as someone elses. personally, i'm on all three. the inderal never seemed to have worked. but the topamax has done great things for me. it has brought the frequency of the migraines down to something that i can manage. i am on 300mg. originally i started at a very low dose and slowly worked my way up over the last two years. best of luck. kate. Hello!
I have tried all three, although not all three at the same time. I was on Topamax first - then went to Topamax and Amitriptyline. After those konked out, I tried Inderal. My story is: Topamax on it's own worked great for about a year. When it started to fade, I added the Amitriptyline into the mix. That worked for a while....I slept better but also gained a lot of weight (the 15 I lost from the topa, plus another 15 - UGH!). After this, we tried Inderal. I was only on it for about 2 weeks on a very low dose before I had to come off of it due to my blood pressure. I was almost passing out and I think I was only on 10 or 20mgs of it! That's all I have as far as personal experience. Let us know how you make out! Well, I saw my Neuro today. He decided that I did not need the extra Topamax. He said I am doing pretty well with what I am taking. He says taking more medication may make me feel even worse due to the side effects. I did ask him about some of my my long mild Migraines being triggered by the herniated disk in my neck. He explained that for someone without Migraine disorders this would probably not be a trigger. In my case it is. He explained what happens when the disk triggers a Migraine at it was pretty detailed. At least we have gotten to a point that we know what my main triggers are. A lot of my Migraines are hormonal. In my case BC pills help, not hinder. I take Lybrel continuously in which you do not get a period. When I do get the occasional spotting they speak of it automatically triggers a Migraine. The only side effect that I get is weight gain. I told him that is enough to trigger a Migraine in itself, lol. Always something. Thanks, and take care.
