Well, bad news. Having a horrible migraine today. It's raining outside. A big trigger for me. The new medications (Midrin & Lithium) are not working very well. I took them both for 4 weeks. Neurologist took me off of the Midrin but kept me on the Lithium at night before bed. If I have trouble sleeping I can take 5 MG of Diazepam. I take an Axert when I have a migraine. I can also take Ibuprofen. I got my prescription filled on April 24, received 9 tablets. I only have 4 left. I have been cutting them in half. I can only get 9 tablets per month. I have to go to NC to my Granddaughters wedding will be there from the 16th and will leave to come back home on the 19th. Her wedding is on the 18th. I just hope and pray that I will feel OK. I don't want to have a migraine on her wedding day. Pray for me that I will be migraine free those 4 days. At least I'm going by train and not driving. I can't drive long distances anymore.
I go back for a follow-up with my Neurologist on June 10th. The earliest appointment I could get. I guess we will move to plan B. I believe I want to try Botox injections next. I just don't know what else to do. |

Sorry to hear you had a bad migraine yesterday.
You can always refill your script once you run out....it's May now so you should not have a problem if you filled your last one in April. Hope you are feeling better today! It's a big expense, but if you can get your doctor to prescribe 18 tablets instead of 9, you can get an additional 9 tablets a month. The problem is, you have to pay retail, and most people can't afford that. My insurance won't cover a refill unless it's been at least 3 weeks since the last time I filled the Rx. There are times when I count the days...
I'll be thinking of you and hoping your head will behave while you're at the wedding. Please convey my best wishes to the bride! Gretchen in MIssissippi |

Unfortunately, my CVS doesn't work that way. If I got my prescription filled on April 24. I will not get a refill for 30 days after that. I know, because I have tried to do it before. I am going to try and get my doctor to prescribe a brand new prescription of the Axert and maybe I can get it filled. I am going away and I won't have enough if I should get a migraine while I'm away. I just hope that will work for me.

You could check with your doctor and see if he could get you an override for more than 9 tablets per month. Does cutting tablets in half work for you? Or are you not getting as much relief as you should be when you have to "economize" on medication. Your pharmacist can fax your physician with a request for an override or you can call your physician yourself. Unfortunately not all insurances offer this on all triptans, but you'll never know until you try.

pardon me-I'm sick. By override, I mean an insurance override. Most insurances do offer them on certain medications when physicians can justify a larger than usual requirement for a dose or number of tablets per month.
Please understand that it's not CVS making it hard for you to get your medication refilled (or it should not be). The insurance you have dictates how soon a medication can be refilled. Some prescription insurances are more lenient than others. Often you can get medications refilled approximately 7 days before you should run out, but for expensive, carefully regulated (by the insurance co) there are often different rules. tracie |

If you're going out of town, sometimes in these circumstances I have explained this to my doctor(and believe me,they know the situation with the insurance companies), and they have been kind enough to provide me with samples for my trip when I need them. Just thought you might try this for your daughter's wedding. So sorry about your migraines!
