I've been taking 50-100 mg of Imitrex at one given time for about 6 months. I've taken them on average over the entire time, 2-4 days a week. I've recently been suffering cold hands and feet. So cold, that they someimtes ache. This has been going on for about 3-4 weeks. I just recently read it is a severe side effect of Imitrex and to go to the doctor as soon as possible. I will be going tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone had anymore information on the cold hands, and/or possible a link to a site.
Help is greatly appreciated! |

I only took Imitrex a few times, and never had any issues like this. Have you called and asked your pharmacist about it, by any chance. Often times pharmacists hear about quirky side effects experienced with meds because people call and ask. They're probably the best bet for gauging how "common" this kind of thing is.

Yes, I've had the same thing. I don't use Imitrex as often now, I usually use Frova. But when my migraines were at their worse and I was taking it 2-3 times per week my hands and feet were freezing all the time.
Using the occasional dose of it now, I don't get that for a prolonged period. Let us know what your doctor says. |

Well, I went in today and was basically told it is only a side effect and poses no risk. SImply that it is an annoyance more than anything else. Thanks for your input though guys!

Just my two cents. Imitrex causes vasoconstriction (constriction of blood vessels). For me, I have both Raynaud's Syndrome and Prinzmetal Angina (PA), both of which are vasospasms (i.e. where a blood vessel spasms decreasing blood to the area downstream). Raynaud's affects the extremities, causing them to be cold, turn pretty colors (like white, blue, and red), and/or ache. With PA the coronary arteries in the heart go into spasm. For me, Imitrex set off my vasospasms.
Raynaud's is not a big issue other than it's a bothersome to live with, especially in a cold climate. But just to make you aware (not to scare you): if you're having chest pressure or pain or shortness of breath, call your doctor immediately and/or seek help (depending upon the severity). Wishing you a migraine-free day, Tonya |

Thank you very much! I will have to look into Raynaud's Syndrome. I'll be having a very large amount of bloodwork down within a few days. We'll see if anything shows up there.
