Hi all,
Well, today was good news all the way around. My doc and I had a LONG discussion about his laughing at me last week and he wasn't laughing at me, but rather something I said just prior to asking for the shot. Neither one of us can remember what I said, but he apologized for making me feel the way he did. He also got the results of the MRI and based on that, he is going to start tapering my meds back in hopes of getting me completely off them. The tumor seems to have gone away so we're going to taper off and do blood work in a month and see how it goes. It would be the first time in 11 years that I wouldn't be on meds for a tumor. He also agreed to let me try Maxalt. He said it was a little stronger than Frova. I told him that I had had 2 migraines (one in Sept and the next in Dec), but from the end of Jan on, I'd had 6. The end of Jan is when I lost all of my help at work! I've been pulling 60+ hrs/week by myself. I get full time help again Wed. so hopefully things will begin to settle down. I ask him to just help me get through the next 3 months until i get her trained and get some relief and if I was still having migraines 3-4 month, I wouldn't argue with him about a preventative. He agreed and then changed me to Maxalt. Here's my question-for those of you on maxalt, what side effects have you had. I must admit, even though it is a SLIM side effect, even the possibility of the cardiac side effects scare me to death! That's also the main reason I won't take Imitrex. Meds work strange on me and I'm allergic to about 15 different meds, so I tend to be VERY cautious when taking anything new. Now that I work for my doc, my rule of thumb is, I won't take anything new unless I'm at work where I can get to him ASAP. Any answers you can give me about what side effects you have would be greatly appreciated and help put my mind at ease some. Thanks for all of your support and help! Lynn |

Hi littlebit,
I have been taking Maxalt 10 mg, as needed for about 5 yrs. I believe there is also a lower dose. My side effects are very minimal. Sometimes my upper arm muscles and legs are sore about an hour after taking it for the rest of the day. Occasionaly I get drowsy IF i'm just sitting around watching TV or basically doing nothing. If I keep moving and stay occupied with something(especially at work) I generally do not get drowsy or tired. I did take Imitrex once and had a very bad reaction to it as well. The Maxalt seems to work like a charm for me and usually I only need to take it once. Good luck to you, Angel |

Hi, littlebit, I'm glad you were able to get things resolved with the doctor.
Here's some info on Maxalt: Maxalt Oral Take care. |

Maxalt is one I haven't tried, but remember, any side effects listed are potential, not a guarantee. You might be fine; the only way to know is to try it. You might want to try it at work one time so your doctor is there to see how you do.
