Yesterday was my 4th day in 7 that I took Imitrex. I have a whopper of a mig now - about an 8 - had one this bad last night too. Actually I'm guessing it's the same one - I had only a little pain when I got up but it's been steadily worse all day. I've tried ice, sleep, all my non-triptan meds.

I hate being in this position. You all can't give me medical advice, my PCP doesn't know anything about this, and my mig specialist appointment is June 3. I don't know what's worse - risking MOH or not breaking this migraine. It's about 34 hours into this migraine now.

Any ideas?

- Megs

After great throught:
1. Call your migraine specialist in the morning for their suggestions. Just because your appointment is Juen 3 does not mean you can't call them before.

2. Starting now, call your self out sick
-sign off the computer
-go to a dark room
-pull out your bag of tricks
-go to bed
-go to sleep

I have a feeling you have not really called yourself out sick today. Just a guess. DH, DD, and DS will have to deal with whatever without you. They can and will.

I have in the past gone beyond what is considered safe with medications and run the risk of MOH. I haven't done it with abortives. If the abortive can't get rid of it after the second dose I'm usually up a creek. Fortunately that has happened very few times. I have taken vicaden or fiocet every 6 hours for a full day to get rid of something. I haven't had to go beyond that in a very long time.

Megs,

I've been where you are. I can tell you that if I were in your place, I would NOT take the Imitrex. MOH simply isn't worth it.

If you're still like this tomorrow, you might want to call your PCP anyway; see if he has any suggestions. Hopefully, you're sleeping now, and it will be gone tomorrow.

Hope you're better in the morning. You know where to find me if I can do anything for you.

gentle hugs,

Hi dears -

Better this morning. I'm not sure if the Migraine is all gone, but I think it may be. You know. afraid to move too fast for fear of awakening it?

First of all, I think Cindy is a mind reader - I really hadn't "called in sick." Not that I was doing anything around the house or for the family - I was in bed and really couldn't move without major head pounding. but I was squinting at the computer (which had gotten fixed about 8 pm), trying to catch up on what I had missed there, when there was no need to. So my lavender oil infuser and ice pack and I went to bed.

I tried to sleep for almost 3 hours - dozing a little with a lot of pain, but couldn't really get to sleep. I finally took an Imitrex at 11:40. And slept well until 7. And so far, so good. Fingers Crossed

I will call my PCP's office this morning, though I think they have no strategies for this (he tells me the non-allergenic pain meds I have "should work" - well, they work to knock a 3 down to a 2 for a few hours, but have no effect on a 5 or above.) If they have no suggestions I will call Jefferson, see if they can give me any advice in advance of my appointment.

Anyway, thanks for being there for me! It helps just to have someone else to bounce the ideas off - someone with some experience with this, a clearer head, and a big heart. Like all of you.

How are you doing now, Megs? And what did the PCP's office have to say? Any ideas?

Hi Droolie - I actually started feeling great by mid-morning - best day I've had in a week or more. And forgot to call the doctor Embarrassed. I've got to talk to them about some insurance stuff as well, so I will put a call in tomorrow.

Thanks for asking!

Megs,
If only I was a mind reader. I might be able to figure out another mom, but I can't read the mind of a teenager.

I'm glad you are doing well today. Sure sign you are doing better is you did forget to call.

Take care,

Cindy
