I don't want to say the name of the product here in case it breaches forum rules, but around March 1st there was TV and news reports about a production with capsaicin in it that has helped some people with the headache pain of migraines. I'm very skeptical of such things, but have noticed that eating hot peppers has helped occasionally in the past.

Has anyone used this OTC sinus pepper spray? My migraines are so extreme I can't imagine, but I'm just curious. Thanks.

I've heard of the pepper spray but don't know if I would ever be brave enough to try it!

I'm sure someone will come along with an answer soon.

I have not tried it. On another forum a few months ago there was some discussion of this and a few people saying cayenne worked for them, either in spray or on the tngue.

When I was in college and young and foolhardy (or you could say brave) I sniffed goldenseal and cayenne for what I thought was sinus headache (may have been migraine) - on the advice of an herbalist. I remember it hurt like the dickens on the membranes, but did relieve the head pain after a few minutes. I don't remember the relief lasting long, though. I might try the spray - hopefully they've refined it more than snorting straight pepper powder up the schnozz!

I'd have to be pretty desperate, because anything that would make my sinuses prickle, burn, and drip is seen as evil in my book. And I'm sure capsaicin would fit that bill. Nancy said it best.

Funny you should mention it, I just ordered some of this stuff.

I figured I wouldn't care if it hurts, after all the drugs & side effects I've been through, I feel like I'm desperate enough to try just about anything!

I'll be happy to report back here with the results.

Good luck, brave soul! Smiler

Just make sure your doc knows about it before you actually try it out.

FYI: tried the nasal spray this morning. Active ingredient is Capsaicin (Capsicum 4x), derived from Cayenne/pepper plant, theorized to be an anti-inflammatory, product cost me just under $18 (for "200 sprays"/3 ml).

Didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would, felt similiar to using decongestant nasal spray, and I could feel a clearing/opening up sensation, through my sinuses & into my lower forehead.

I can see how this product might be helpful in reducing the pain intensity in tension headaches, but I seriously doubt it would help a full-blown/one-sided migraine headache (???).

However, since it did help me this morning with the tight muscle feeling behind my eyes, I think I'll keep it in my headache "toolbox", & continue to experiment with it for tension headaches only.

Thanks for letting us know - you're definitely brave for trying it, though in desperation sometimes I know I feel like I'll try anything. Wink

Thanks to everyone who replied to my pepper spray question, and a special thanks to CrazyBrain for courageously trying it out and reporting back to all of us Smiler

I'm sorry my reply is so delayed, but I've been trying not to spend much time on the computer. It hasn't changed my migraine pattern, so I guess I'll join the crowd here on days I feel well enough.

Thanks again.
