I've been doing great for the last four weeks with only minor migraines. However, my insurance company is refusing to pay for the Vimpat, so I'm going to have to find a new med for that!

In addition, I've noticed that I've become pretty moody and teary over the last few weeks. I already take 60 mg of Prozac for depression which is generally completely under control. I thought it might go away once I stopped the Vimpat but it has been over a week and the symptoms persist.

I did some research and found that Zanaflex can cause depression and mood lability in a small percentage of the people. Looks like I'm one.

So tomorrow I'm going to call Dr. K's office and see what we need to do about changing my meds. I'm bummed in that what I've been using has really helped!! However, I still feel hopeful knowing how commmitted they are to finding a solution. With as many meds as there are available, surely we'll find another combination that works for me!

Please keep your fingers crossed for me and say a prayer as you think about it. I've been spoiled the last month with feeling as good as I have and would like to keep it up! But I can't continue feeling as weepy as I do - a true double bind situation!

Thanks all!

Cyn

Cyn,

I'm so sorry your insurance won't cover the Vimpat, that stinks! Is there a way around it at all? Maybe a letter from Dr. K stating that it's a nessary medicine or something like that? I'd hate for you to have to give up on something that's been working so well.

I've had great success with Zanaflex, I'm sorry you ended up with side effects Thumbs Down

Fingers crossed, let us know how it goes, okay?

Cyn,

Boo to the Zanaflex if that is the med that is making you feel gross. I really like Zanaflex. There are other muscle relaxers out there that may be beneficial,I think we've talked about a few before.....Soma, Parafon Forte, Skelaxin, among many, many others.

I am taking Soma now and I am torn - maybe I need a tad higher of a dose for it to work better. I don't want to scrap it since for some strange reason, it's free on my insurance! Granted, I am changing insurance plans this week.

I'm sorry you can't get the Vimpat covered....like Laura said, maybe a letter of medical necessity would do it?

Hope you start feeling better soon! I'm sending you positive vibes my friend! Group Hug

Hey Cyn - chiming in with a suggestion of fighting it with the insurance company - they really want to push one size fits all medicine down our throats, and the size they want to choose is the size that is least expensive for them. Some people have had good luck with letters of medical necessity that detail why this medication works where others don't, and even point out the relative cost of increased ER visits over the cost of paying for the med.

Good luck!

Dr. K's office has already send in reams of supporting data for my need for Vimpat. I plan to call the insurance company and talk with them also. However, they've told both the pharmacy and Dr. K no.

Kind of ironic!! You'd think they'd rather not pay for all the doctor and er visits of the last year and a half and continue to give me something that actually keeps me well and at work!

You never know with insurance companies! When I was trying to get my hysterectomy five years ago, I was turned down by the doctor who reviewed my case. Come to find out that he was a podiatrist!!! Razzer

Not losing hope - no there's an answer!

I hate mood lability! I get it when my thyroid goes out of whack. It's always worst when I'm hyperthyroid, because I'm more hypersensitive. It's not fun suddenly becoming a tear faucet over absolutely nothing at all and not being able to shut it off, knowing it's completely irrational. Trying to explain it to people around you only gets blinks and stares. I'm always so glad when it goes away and stays away.

Group Hug May yours go away for good soon, and may Dr. K have some great ideas about the meds. Group Hug

Gee, doesn't that sound kind of like unauthorized practice of medicine???

Good luck, hon!
