I went to the allergist recently, since I'm going to start allergy shots to see if it helps with my headaches and migraines.
The allergist gave me a prescription for Astelin mixed with lidocaine. She said that if allergies are a migraine trigger for me, the nasal spray could act as an abortive. I'm happy to have a breastfeeding friendly med to try, so the next time I feel a migraine building I plan to give it a whirl. Anyone ever heard of or tried a nasal spray with lidocaine? |

Astelin with lidocaine is antihistamine with an anesthetic and cannot abort a Migraine.
Lidocaine nasal spray has been used by some people as a rescue medication. Maybe that's what your doctor is talking about. Here is some information on Preventive, Abortive, and Rescue Medications - What's the Difference? you may find interesting. |

Thanks for the clarification. The allergist didn't actually say it was an abortive so it was probably me just mis-understanding & confusing the terms. You wouldn't happen to know if there are any abortives that are breastfeeding friendly? I've tried Maxalt and Imitrex, but the docs have told me to pump and dump for several hours after taking them. |
