I have been taking Lamictal for about 2 weeks and started on a dose of 25mg. Last night was my first time to increase the dose to 50mg. I had been noticing over the past 2 weeks that I had a lot more energy and this felt great. But over the past few days I felt like my increased energy was turning into anxiety and I had a few panic attacks.
Now this morning after increasing my dose to 50mg last night I woke up with a small rash on my wrist. It seems to have gone away now, but it was blistery looking, red, and itchy. I knew one of the more serious side effects of this med is a rash, so I called my neurologist's office to ask about it. I'm still waiting for them to call back. I don't know what to do, this is the 6th preventive I've tried and none of them have worked long term and some of the side effects I've experienced have been intolerable. When I called my neuro, I asked the nurse about the possibility of taking some natural supplements. I'm very frustrated and don't know if I will tolerate any medications well since I seem to be so sensitive. |

Peggyann,
You did the right thing by calling your doctor, hopefully you'll hear from them soon. I originally started Lamictal back in August and tapered up from 25 mgs to 50 mgs within one week and it gave me some icky side effects. I had bumps on my tongue and cheeks. I called my doctor and he said to taper back down, which I did. However, I also read that tapering up to soon could cause that particular side effect so I waited a couple of weeks and now I'm tapering up more slowly with zero side effects. I'm up to 125 mgs right now and my neuro is willing to let me to up it to 200 mgs to see if it will help and since I'm not having any issues with the med, I'm going to keep on slowly tapering up. Please let us know what the doctor has to say, okay? Laura Forum Moderator |

Laura,
How are you doing on the Lamictal? I haven't started it yet because I just cannot go thru anymore bad side effects right now. May wait until after the holidays, like in January. Pam |
