Since I started taking my new meds, I've found that I have very dry mouth/tongue. I know this is a common side effect of many meds. While I'd rather have dry mouth than have bad migraines, the dry mouth is very irritating.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for what to do to offset the symptoms. I've tried increasing water intake. I have read that Coenzyme Q10 helps and will probably try that.

Cyn -

I am having the same issue on nortriptyline - I'm just drinking lots and lots of water, and sucking on mints. figure extra water intake certainly can't hurt...

Cyn,

I had this for a side effect also, can't remember which med it was but what I found really helped was this toothpaste. Bioteen Toothpaste

When it was first recommended I couldn't believe it would help but it really did! I found mine at Walgreens but I have also seen it at grocery store, not hard to find. Also sugarless candy to suck on, tic tacs etc. Good Luck

I get dry mouth all the time too. It's one of the side effects I hate the most.

I just tend to drink a lot of water, my body lets me know when it's had enough.

Thanks for the ideas.

I'm going to Walgreens to check out the Biotene. Someone also told me you can buy a mouth rinse called Artificial Saliva - will see what I can find out!

i've also tried the biotene... total thumbs up from me! Add the sugarless candies*, and Wow- what a difference!!

*(and watch out for potential triggers there-- if you're prone to artificial sweetener triggers! I personally have to watch out for Splenda, and that's becoming harder and harder nowadays... but that's beside the point, lol!)

Good luck!

This is a very irritating side effect. I find that I can chew gum, as tolerated with TMJ, and also sugar free mints help wonders. Of course, lots of water intake also!

Oasis mouth spray, I keep it in the nightstand. It's almost pure glycerin but I love it.

These are all good ideas. I have this weird phobia about saliva, though...I am not sure I could deal with artificial saliva!

I hear you Leeloo on the artificial saliva....I don't think I could do it! LOL now all I can think about is a big bottle of spit. Great. Roll Eyes

I think Topamax has this as a potenital side effect. I don't remember getting it from that, but I did get it with an antibiotic, Biaxin, which I refuse to take now.

They used to make these mint things called Aqua drops that were great too. I don't think they make them anymore. Thumbs Down They really helped. I do the gum thing as much as my jaw can stand. Mints, and things like that too.

Hmmm...I'm gonna have to seek out those Oasis spray thingies next time I have a cold and take cold meds. They always dry my mouth out so bad, and I haven't found anything else that helps. I've always wanted something that would coat things and last more that five seconds.
