I got home and first tried the pain pills my neurologist (soon to be old neurologis!) prescribed me...

they're generic for Midrin.

This bottle says: ISOMETH (which I know is generic for Midrin), then/APAP/DICHLOR CAPSULES.

The directions are take 1-2 every 4 hours as needed for headache pain.

So, do these pills work pretty well?

I've NEVER tried them/heard of them, until I got here!

DO they have ANY narcotic in them at all (again, that's what really only helps my horrible headaches), or is it just mainly Tylenol?

MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

I so hope they help... he gave me 3 refills on them... which is GREAT, IF they help.

Thanks!

Elizabeth

I haven't ever tried Midrin, but I know a lot of people have great success with it. Click HERE for the drug info on Midrin.

Midrin is a combination drug. I think the dichloralphenazone is a narcotic, but I'm not 100% sure.

Check out that link - it has some good info. Hope this helps.

I don't think anything in Midrin is narcotic. It's got the acetaminophen. One of the other meds is a muscle relaxer. I think the third is a mild anti-anxiety med.

I used Midrin with success years ago. I hope it does well for you.

I've had good success with Midrin as an abortive.

Midrn is a combination of acetaminophen, a pain reliever; dichloralphenazone, a sedative; and isometheptene which constricts blood vessels. There is no narcotic in this medication.

Thanks, Nancy and Gretchen, for correcting the information I gave Elizabeth - I've never taken Midrin so I wasn't sure! Thumbs Up

Elizabeth, how are you feeling today? How did the Midrin work for you?

I absolutely adore my Midrin, and wouldn't trade it for anything. Smiler They work splendidly for me.

One thing I've noticed in the past few years is that while some of us have excellent luck with "generic" Midrin forms, others aren't so lucky. Some of those that don't get relief from the generics reported better luck with the brand name med, though. Whether or not it will work well is one of those highly individual, mileage may vary things.

I too use midrin and wouldnt trade it! It does work great for an abortive for me with my normal migraines. With the hemiplegic ones or the ongoing unbreakable ones, they help take the edge off and let me get some much needed sleep!

I just hate the cotton mouth I get with it! Also, I cant drive when I take it(or wont I should say) So sometimes, if I have a kid to pick up or whatever, I dont take it when I need to(abortive) Then its too late!

Let us know how it works for you Elizabeth!

I've had good success with Midrin as an abortive.

Midrin is a combination of acetaminophen, a pain reliever;
dichloralphenazone, a sedative; and isometheptene which
constricts blood vessels.

There is no narcotic in this medication.

Nancy's experience mirrors mine. In 1973, I experienced my
first visual aura, followed by an excruciating migraine
accompanied by vomiting and the runs.

I thought I was losing my vision. My eye doctor send me to a
brilliant neurologist who put me on this new medicine called
Midrin. He said that Midrin works like no other; it simply
stops the migraine. And it sure did for me.

I have to get Midrin in during the 20 minute aura. If I take
sufficient Midrin during this warning period, at the end of
20 mins. there will be no pounding, no shooting pains, etc.
etc., only a very bad headache (which is nothing compared to
a migraine).

So, since 1973, I have stopped each potentially full-blown
Migraine with Midrin. At the end of 20 minutes, the aura
leaves, my vision is restored, and there is no migraine.

Thanks to Midrin, I have had a life, free of horrendous pain.
