I have a quick question regarding medication side effects. I have been waking up with daily migraines for weeks. Recently switched from Topomax to Zonegran and just completed a round of Prednisone 60 mg. I experienced little relief in my symptoms and continued to feel miserable. The day before my Prednisone burst ended, the muscles in my neck, shoulders, and occipital area started to ache. The following morning, I had a horrible migrane and was extraordinarily sore from my jaw to my kidneys (also my muscles in my spine, legs, and elbows). I hurt to touch and move... a mixture between flu and extreme excercise soreness. I finally got out of bed in the evening; however, was worthless the entire night. I woke today still a bit sore; however, I did not have a headache! Could my physical reaction have been a response to the Prednisone? Or, are my migraines changing in response to the Zonegran?

Hello, Webster, welcome to the forum. We're glad you found us.

I would suggest contacting your pharmacist and/or doctor about these symptoms, as soon as possible.

Here is some information about prednisone:

Prednisone-5 Oral

I did note the following in the article I just linked:

quote:
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:

muscle weakness/pain

But please also note it is very important not to stop this medicine without your doctor's knowledge and advice.

Here is a link to a past thread concerning Zonegran side effects:

zonegran and back pain

Again, please consult with your doctor and/or pharmacist as soon as you can. And welcome again!

Webster,
I would like to reiterate Nutcracter's advice to contact your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible regarding the side effects of the medications you are on. Having recently discussed side effects with my Pharmacist, she said she wished more people would take the time to call or ask questions when they were in. Something does not sound right and you need to find out what is going on.

Take care and keep in touch with us.

Hi Webster, and welcome! I would definitely contact your doctor or pharmacist with your side effect questions. You do need to find out what's going on.

Let us know what you find out, ok?

Somewhere, maybe in Teri's book, I read this excellent advice: When you start a new med and pick it up at the pharmacy, sit down there and read the prescribing info before you leave. Usually there are some chairs there for people who are waiting on their meds. Then, if you have questions, you can ask the pharmacist before you leave the building. Of course, if questions arise later, pharmacists are happy to answer questions at any time.

Regarding the Zonegran, thought it important to mention the potential side effects (listed on your pharmacy hand out) of "flu syndrome" (achey/sore muscles, chills, etc) and kidney problems (mainly stones). Though rare, these side effects can be extrememly serious & would definitely warrant an immediate visit to your doctor/ER.

Hope you're feeling better now. Flower
