I have been trying out Lyrica as a preventative for a few months now and am seeing some positive results. But the side effects are brutal. I have swelling in my ankles and knees, causing a great deal of pain, bruising and mobility issues. Some days the pain is not too bad, no worse than a moderate fibromyalgia pain day, where it is tender and noticable when you move, but not extremely limiting. But other days it is hard to handle and even harder to move... I kind of have to shuffle as the ankle pain makes it impossible to lift my feet normally. I think if it was just the swelling and the bruising it would not be too bad. As it is, I am not sure I can remain on it, or will be permitted to remain on it. Which is unfortunate and disapointing because I had high hopes for this preventative, given it is said to help with FMS as well. And I really do not want to start messing around with new ones at this time, because my job position is delicate and I need to be at work, with the potential increase in migraines and different side effects and the months to see if a new med is even working, well it just makes me remember the last time, which was a slow spiral into a medical leave and then an even slower return to work. So then maybe this leg pain can be endured for now, while I consider my options. As long as it does not get really bad again, as it was when the swelling started, as that was extremely unpleasant. I do not believe this is a common side effect, and asside from it, I have had no others... none of the normal ones of weight gain or mental fog and such. So I would still recommend it to anyone looking for a new preventative.

I am sorry to hear you are having such terrible side effects! I definately think you should check out the leg pain/swelling with your doctor. It may be potentially dangerous.
I wish I could help more... I hope you are able to hold out for a while Good luck, and keep us posted! |

Hi Myth,
I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble with Lyrica. I did a bit of research and peripheral edema is a side effect of Lyrica. A call your doctor is in order and also let him know about bruising, this may be a serious potential side effect. Please let us know what he says, ok? |

I am going to mention it to my doctor, but am tapering off the dose now. I did not realize the swelling and so force was a serious effect, only that very painful and limits mobility. So I will go off it, but don't know what they will suggest to replace it this time.

Myth, so sorry to hear the Lyrica isn't working out for you. Try to think of it this way, that you're now one step closer to finding a treatment that will work for you.
