Migraine

Hi all! I was diagnosed with migraines about 10 months ago. I've been on elavil since then but my doc just added 25mg of Topamax a few days ago. It's giving me terrible intestinal troubles which in turn is causing hemorroids, sorry for painting any unpleasant mental pictures. How long is this going to last? I'd much prefer cognitive impairment to this torture.

Oh yeah, another question....anyone else have pressure in your temple area? I have constant pressure in my temples, no pain just pressure. Sometimes it extends down into my ears and I can't hear very well and I get dizzy. My doc doesn't know what the heck it is, he thinks it has to do with my high blood pressure (was 140/90)so he upped by meds and put me on a water pill (now 120/80) but that hasn't helped either.

No one can say when or if side effects will diminish. It is very individual. Likewise, no one can say what side effects you can or should tolerate. You are the only one who can make that decision. If you decide you can not tolerate Topamax, there are many other possibilities:

Its good to know theres more options out there. I hate these stomach issues and now my right eye is acting up. It's been twitching all day and I'm getting a stabbing pain behind my eye. I have a doctors appt this afternoon so hopefully we can get this worked out.

Maybe you are at the doctor discussing your eye pain right now. I hope the doctor was able to check things out, and the two of you were able to make a sensible decision about your Topamax usage. Please see this article:

I had the same issue w/Topamax - the diarrhea and the um hemmorhoids - lots of fun I know. It did go away for me eventually. I still do get it occasionally, but overall it is much improved. For me, it was really just a matter of waiting it out and letting my body get used to the medication. Not pleasant - but it did get better with time!

Well my doc wasn't keen on the side effects I was having so he took me off the topamax and increased my elavil. He also gave me some Zomig to try since we haven't run through the migraine abortives yet. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
