Hi yall! Just got back from seeing TJs neuro. To make a long story short, the Migrelief that he had TJ on for preventative did nothing to help the migs, so he gave me the choice to try Petadolex (a butterbur herbal med) from Germany, or to go on a prescription preventative. The Petadolex is around $50 a month and ins. doesnt cover it, but the prescription meds have side effects.

I decided to try this last shot before having to put my son on prescription preventatives. I am ALL for natural before drugs. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has tried this, and if so how it worked for them!

Let me know! Thanks!!

Hi Tawsha,

I take Petadolex as part of my daily supplements (along with a long list of other ones). It definitely does help decrease the severity of my pain along with everything else - I notice when I forget to buy more and stop taking it for a few days. I only had a few very minor side effects the first few days I took it (upset stomach, mainly), which cleared up within 3-4 days. Also, I've noticed that I do better if I take it with food.

I buy mine from iHerb for about $33/bottle, plus shipping. You can find it HERE.

Do make sure you spend the extra money to buy the Petadolex brand. If butterbur is not processed correctly, it can have toxins in it; Petadolex is the only brand known to not have these toxins.

Good luck to you and TJ! Heart

I've been on Migravent for about a year and I'm not convinced it really helps. I'm also not that thrilled about spending $75 every 2 months to get it. I'm thinking about trying the Petadolex, so I would also appreciate any additional feedback.

I had a naturopath once that was very gung ho on Petadolex. I never tried it, though, because at the time I felt like I was taking so many things already, and it was pricier than I wanted to try and afford, too. Plus, that wasn't long after I had started taking magnesium, which was working well for mme (and still does). I kept it in mind as a future thing I might consider, but never have tried it.

I take petadolex too. I'm horrendous sensitive to a vast number of prescription meds, but tend to have much better luck with herbal and supplement stuff. I have this whole handful of stuff I take 2x a day now.

I think the petadolex (in combo with the magnesium and the B2) have tamed my frequency down some. I got a bit of heartburn when I first started with it, but compared to side effects/adverse reactions from the prescription preventatives that's almost nothing. I do think it takes a good 30+ days to see the effects though.

Hi Susan,

We have a video you may be interested in watching on butterbur (petadolex) and is presented by one of our recommended Migraine specialists, Dr. Richard Lipton.

Healing Migraines ... Naturally

Does this help?

Thank yall for the feedback! both me and TJs neuro is very interested on how this works since the migrelief did NOTHING for tj. (migrelief is a combo of feverfew, B2 and magnesium)

MJ,SO good to see ya! The website my neuro sent me to was about 41.99 a bottle but it was buy 2 bottles get 3rd free. TY for your site! That is much cheaper than the one i bought it from when its not on special!

The petadolex came in yesterday so TJ started it last night. We shall see!

You can get an even better Weber petadolox price from www.betterhealthinternational.com
They offer 3 bottles of Weber petadolox for $68.99 as compared to $82.50 from www.petadolox.com and it's the same. I know my daughter's migraine specialist Dr. Fred Sheftell recommends the Weber as the best to use and this is the best price I could find.

Butterbur was one of the inital migraine treatments I tried. It was pretty horrible for me. The doctor said I was on the verge of getting an ulcer after a month of taking it, eventhough I only took it with food. And it did nothing for my migraines. In fact it made it worse because my stomach pain was bad I couldn't sleep.

Hope you all have better luck!
