I see there's a potential side effect of approximately 33% for Insomnia in Zonegran users...
do any of you have personal experience with this? Did it get better with time? Did you treat the insomnia with an RX in order to stay on the med?

I've been taking Zonegran for 3 months, am still having daily migraines, but the pain level has been decreased to a variable daily average of about a "4" to a "6" (the best so far out of 20+ preventatives). I didn't have insomnia until a few weeks ago, after going off my anti-depressant (Celexa), and now I'm waking up literally 15-20 times per night, wide awake, ready to go, and when I am finally asleep, I'm thrashing around, so much that I'm waking up my spouse...I'm assuming this is the Zonegran? Over the counter sleep aids are not helping, I've already tried...suggestions please(next neuro appt, April 3)? Thanks

Ummm, I just re-started taking Zonegran and it is having the opposite effect on me. I am sleeping better since I started Zonegra, that's why my doctor has me take it at night.

When you stopped celexa, did you add a different antidepressant? I would put a call into the doctor and ask about the sleep issue. It can play havoc with your pain levels. Speaking of which a daily pain level of "4" is still not acceptable for anyone! It gets so exhausting. When you see him on April 3, ask him how he plans to take your pain down more.

Thank you, Nancy. Yes, I see drowsiness listed as one of the most commonly reported side effects...lucky me. Wink
No, I haven't added in another antidepressant as of yet, I've tried many already, including tricyclics, for prophylaxis, and none have helped. Just felt it was time to weed out some of these unecessary meds from my system, those that aren't helping the migraines but are contributing significantly to my daily side effects (don't need it for depression right now either).

I'm wondering if the Celexa may have been making me tired & masking the insomnia side effect of the Zonegran?

I know I need to muster up the courage to call my neuro & get help...normally it wouldn't be a problem (been seeing him for 2 yrs now), but I'm feeling particulary discouraged by my results & options this time around, and feeling so exhausted & beat down by the pain (yes, a "4" on the pain scale really is considered an awesome day for me).

Thanks for your input. Smiler
