When I 1st started getting Toradol injections (around 10 yrs. ago) the doctor always gave me Phenergan along with it because he said that the Toradol alone would make me nauseous. I've had another doctor tell me that this isn't the case - that the doctor probably gave me the Phenergan to help me sleep. Why wouldn't the doctor have just told me that?
Anwyay, I'm wondering if I really do have to worry about a Toradol injection making me sick to my stomach. And the reason I'm wondering is because if it doesn't, I could actually go back to work after the shot. But if it does, and I have to use the Phenergan, there's NO WAY I'd make it to anywhere but my bed. I know that many of you use Toradol, so I figured I could get a good idea. Blessings, Sandi |

Sandi, I didn't have any thing with my last Torodol shot. The shot made it possible for me to do things--I even sat outside the doctor's office waiting for my husband in the sunshine. The sunshine felt good and didn't hurt my head, my head had been hurting for three days. Mary in NM |

When I was still able to use Toradol, I would get nauseous and dry heave. Phenergan injections meant that I'd be sleepy, but it was okay.
Somewhere along the line, I lost all tolerance to Toradol. Even with anti-emetic drugs, I still dry heave and feel it messing with my stomach. The last time I used it in an old neuro's office, I had to grab the trash can and I actually wound up having to take a garbage bag with me and have a friend pick me up and take me home. |

I've always had Phenergan with the Toradol, and I haven't thought to ask why. *Usually when I'm feeling bad enough for a Toradol shot, I'm not thinking too clearly!* I just guessed that it made the Toradol work better, kind of like the caffeine in Excedrin.

Toradol is a pretty strong anti-inflammatory drug. So I guess if your system is sensitive to that, you might want the phenergan with it. The last time I had a Toradol shot at the doctor's office, they gave me phenergan as well, but I assume they did that because of the nausea typically associated with migraines.
Phenergan has never made me drowsy, just taken the extreme nausea away, thank goodness! |

I've only ever had Toradol given to me at the ER and everytime I was given it they always gave me some form of anti-nausea drug. Most of the time it was Zofran. I always thought they gave me both drugs becuase I had told them I was nauseous.
By the time the doctors are giving me Toradol I could care less what else they give with it. I would do anything at that point to get rid of the pain. |

I've been giving myself Toradol injections for a couple of years now. I was never given anything to take with it, but the Toradol doesn't seem to give me nausea either. I usually have nausea with the migraine. (Sometimes I get stomach cramps, but it's infrequent.)

Thanks for your responses, everyone. It sounds like more people tend to get nauseous than not. I think I'll ask for Zofran next time, since Phenergan makes me so sleepy.
Have a blessed day, all. Sandi |

Sandi,
I've had A TON of toradol shots and none have made me nauseous. I am nauseous, but I"m that way before the shot. I keep Tigan and Phenegran tabs with me all of the time. I have trouble keeping those down sometimes and end up with a shot, but I never go anywhere without my "bag of tricks". I also keep oral toradol with me as a rescue med and like most of you, if I get bad enough for a shot, I don't care what they give me with it, just give me SOMETHING to get rid of the pain. I'm in hopes that once my migraines are under control, my doc will allow me to keep toradol injections with me for me rescue meds. The oral stuff works, but it takes almost 2 hours and by that time, I'm REALLY bad. Hope you get feeling better soon! Lynn |

Thanks, Lynn. I very rarely get nauseous with my migraine
I've never had the Toradol without Phenergan so I guess the only way to find out what it does to me is try it. Toradol tablets taken orally do NOTHING for me. I sure do with they did, though. Here's to having a bag of tricks, though. I know what you mean, girl. ~Sandi~ |
