Ok, for those of you who have had med big med changes involving more than one medication, how have you kept on top of your side effects? I always try to monitor how a new medication is effecting me, both good and bad... when it starts to take effect at all, etc. I think it helps both me and my doctor.

I'm accepting the fact that perhaps it's fairly normal for there to be multiple meds added all at once, but I'm lowering my Topamax and adding two new meds and two new supplements all at once (or within a week or so). I'm not quite sure what, if anything I can do to give any clarity to the situation. Has anyone who has gone on multiple meds at once come up with any good systems that helped, even a little? Clearly, it won't work as well as if you went on each one by itself... but I'll take anything.

OK-I'm going to really let you guys in on my OCD now! I'm a "color" person and like to chart/track things in different colors so I can look at a glance and see what I need to without having to read through a bunch of stuff.

In my migraine diary, I've got different color pens for different things-red for migrain, orange for meds taken, green for med. instructions, and pink for side effects etc. On the monthly calendar part, I write on that date what new meds I started taking and in a back section, I write that date also and the instructions for taking the meds. I can look at the "month at a glance" section and see red for the days I had a migraine and orange for meds taken. In the "daily planning" section, I write in pink any side effects I notice. I may not be able to determine what meds they are from (I've started multiple new meds at the same time too), but my doc is good at recognizing which ones come from what medicine(he's a pharmacist too). When I go to see him as a patient(I'm also his office manager), I take my diary and we look at the month to see how often I'm having migraines and then if he's changed me meds, we can look at the day section and see if I've had any side effects from those meds.

I REALLY go all the way documenting things-I printed the migraine diary from this site and shrink it down some and copy it. I keep several copies of it in a pocket in the diary(which is actually a day-runner) and when I have a migrain, I fill out the diary and staple it to that day. I have all of the information about the migraine if my doc wants to see it without having to read multiple pages. I can just open up that one day's info on that migraine for him to see.

I know it all sounds complicated, but it works for me. I carry the day-runner/diary everywhere with me, even if it's in my truck, I still have access to it if a migraine hits. It's just a lot easier for me to see "at a glance" with colors then it is to try and read pages or lots of lines of black/blue regular pen!

I've started multiple meds at once, most recently when I started seeing a specialist in November. I just keep track of new symptoms. And I read up on possible side effects, so maybe I have some idea of what it might be.

For example, I started taking Lyrica in November and titrated up slowly. At 125mg, I started craving fats and sweets and gained a couple of pounds. Lyrica has a huge weight gain profile, so I dropped back to 100mg until I saw my specialist again. She changed when I take my Lyrica, and the cravings didn't reappear when I started increasing dosage again.

Nope. That's not complicated! I color-code my ick log, too, in highlighter. It takes all of a minute or two each month, total. It looks cool. And it's soooooo easy to see patterns at a glance. I'm a big fan of color.
