Anyone else here with experience with Healing Touch?
I've had Healing Touch twice, from the same highly-skilled practitioner, who also is an RN. Since I tend to be western-medicine oriented, that made me a lot more comfortable. Healing Touch has been approved as a "standard nursing practice" which nurses can perform without a physician order. The best I can describe it, it is like acupuncture with no needles. There are just gentle touches, and a lot of work in the air above and around you, in the attempt to "clear the energy channels" in the body. I have to admit I am skeptical about the theory of it, but it IS extremely relaxing, and I'm confident it doesn't do any harm. During my second Healing Touch treatment, I was having a migraine. When I reported that, the practitioner stepped away to be sure to be out of the "energy field" of the migraine. And apart from being relaxing, I can't necessarily say it helped the migraine pain. One interesting thing. When I had the first treatment, I had not been diagnosed (or even had major symptoms) with my nutcracker esophagus. I had a muscle spasm in my shoulder, and the practitioner was focusing on that. After a while she said, "There's a blockage in the throat chakra (sp?). I'll try to open it up." I thought of that nearly a year later, when I finally got the diagnosis. The practitioner always encourages people to continue with their western-medicine treatment, and use Healing Touch as a Complementary therapy. I do believe that this woman is extremely sensitive/intuitive to areas of the body that she needs to work with, whether or not the problem is actually "energy flow." |

I just started reading one of the 3 books on this topic my coworker gave me last night. Apparently she does this. I was talking about my experience with the accupuncture one night (we work late shifts together every couple Fridays) and then told her about my husband's uncle who does Reikki (sp). He is one of the calmest people you will ever meet! Funny that he is divorced (I try to envision the knock down drag out fights before the divorce - can't do it!). Anyways, she told me that she did something similar for her FIL who has cancer. She actually used to be really calm, but her home life must have gotten more stressful b/c the past couple months she's been a little high strung and snippy like the rest of us when people act silly. (as in she's finally acting human and not so darn nice! hehe)
So I only got a few pages into the book before falling asleep. But on the cover they show a little girl (about 3-4 yrs old) doing healing touch. Wow! I guess it's a special gift for some folks. But once you get into the first chapter, they talk about teaching lots (3600 or 36,000?) of people to do it. I think it was written by 2 nurses actually. I remember when the kids were babies there was a massage therapist who would do chair massages at a health food store once a month. I would always go! I'd sit the kids in the stroller with a snack and tell him to go until they got too restless or cried. Even though I couldn't see him, he did something to rest his hands above my back and I could feel the heat - like an energy almost. I'll never forget that. I'll bet he did some healing touch along with regular massage. I can't remember his name but I'll have to do some research and see if I can find someone in town who does that. Interesting you bring it up! diane |
