Fledgling |
Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has heard of Reiki for treating migraines. A friend of mine said it has helped with her stomach problems. Thanks in advance, Sarah Edited by moderator: Please do not post links to Wikipedia. Too many of their pages contain incorrect information. Thanks! |

I allowed a friend who is studying Reiki to practice on me once. I don't know if it helped with migraine but it was definitely an interesting experience! My back and neck got warm and tingly. It was the same sensation my body gets when I meditate, which was pretty cool. I think alternative therapies are definitely worth a try!

My husband's uncle does Reiki. But we live in VA and he lives in upstate NY so we rarely see him and I've never tried it with him. My MIL has let him do it and she believes it works. She is the one who first taught me the word years ago. At first I thought she was a little wacko but now that I've read a lot more about it - a coworker loaned me some great books about "healing touch" type work - it makes a little more sense.
I don't remember the name of one book but it was facinating - a little older and about a nurse who worked with heart surgery patients and a Dr. Mehmet Oz back in the 80's (coincedence? I think not.) She then went on to work with cancer patients and women and children in abuse situations if I recall. I really remember the Dr Oz part the most. Funny that I was just telling my husband today that 11 years ago when we were looking for a midwife, there was 1 in the phone book. Now there is an entire magazine printed locally about all the alternative therapies (it also includes yoga, massage, etc) available in our area. There are even 2 midwives who do homebirths advertising! (one of them was an "underground" homebirth midwife years ago) Now there is even a Swami who does Drum ceremonies and Sweat Lodges. But in our great capital area with 6 major hospitals and other smaller ones, including a teaching hospital, is there one headache specialist recommended here or on the NHF website? Diane, who is actually more concerned with not getting the H1N1 right now (had both kids home sick today and was told by the school if it was H1N1 they'd have to stay home 5 days past the last day of fever! WOW! fortunately, I think they just had a little tummy upset from something and will be good to go tomorrow) |
