Does anyone have any experience with a white noise machine? I'm thinking about buying one for when my DH's snoring wakes me up. Will this help drown out that noise? It is pretty loud! Big Wink

My Zanaflex helps me get a great nights sleep but DH's snoring still causes me to wake up. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!!

I have this one:

White Noise Machine

It doesn't drown out dh's snoring, when he snores, but with your zanaflex, it may be enough for you.

I like the light that shines the time on the ceiling. The display numbers are too bright for me so I cover them up; the time on the ceiling works out great.

Thanks Deb!

So here's my dumb question...you can leave the noise on all the time right?

I know, I know, I should do more research LOL...

I don't know the first thing about the white noise machine but I DO know about snoring. My husband is a terrible snorer. I use earplugs. Just thought I'd throw that in.

Yes, you can leave the noise on all night. I have rainstorm for my noise, but you can also choose ocean waves or nature sounds (if you like birds chirping, that is!) There are about seven sounds on the machine.

Hi Laura,

Has your husband tried those strips for his nose? My DH did, and they really do open up your nasal passages. Just my two cents worth.

I have an air purifier in our bedroom which is sort of like a white noise machine, but that's not necessarily the best solution or may not be what you're looking for. Does keep the air nice and fresh though (good for my allergies).

Hoopsky-I tried ear plugs and they made my head hurt Mad My son uses them on weekends to drown out the neighbors' dog barking.

Deb-I think I'm going to have to get that one, it looks cool. No birds chirping though, that would drive me bananas LOL

Nancy-He wears them and they don't do anything for him, he also uses Flonase, zip on that too. Grrr.

MJ-if the noise is loud and soothing at the same time, I'd be willing to try it Smiler

No, not yet...he is going out of town in two weeks due to work and once that settles down, that may be the next issue. He also has "adhesive capsulitis" (frozen shoulder) so he has to go to PT for that.

He can only address one medical issue at a time so he won't miss too much work. But, yes, that will probably be coming up sooner rather than later. Poor guy! Heart

He'll miss hardly any work with a sleep study. He'll go to the sleep clinic around 9 p.m., sleep, wake up, have the doctors evaluate him, he'll take a shower and go off to work! He might be a wee bit late, but he won't miss a day or even hours of work.

Laura, it is both of those! Wink I would just caution you to make sure you get a good one as some of the older/cheaper models can emit ozone.

The one I have at work I bought from HERE. It's not necessarily the cheapest option but it is an option. And, like I said, I got it for my allergies so that was my primary consideration.

Hmmmm, now I'm not sure what to do...I think I'm leaning towards the white noise machine though.

In the meantime, I will talk to DH about it again. Maybe I just need to record him so he can "hear" how loud he really is Smiler

Thanks everyone!

Before dh got his cpap for his apnea, he was waking about 60 times an hour. I read where the bed partner of an apnea patient wakes about 25 times an hour because of the snoring. If he has apnea, there is no way it's doing you any good.

Dh had a frozen shoulder. In July 2006 he got two bites from a brown recluse spider - he spent time in the hospital and had to have two large pieces of his calf removed.

Six weeks later he's got shoulder pain so bad he can't move. Eventually gets surgery, the surgeon said the cartelige is just frayed terribly so he cleaned it up. He had surgery on the shoulder that was frozen and the surgeon said, "I broke it out." Shudder!

I mention the spider bites because we think it's no small coincedence that his shoulders started bothering him six weeks after the bites. Just something your gut knows.
