I just had my first accupuncture treatment. I noticed as I was getting it that my nausea was increasing. Now, two hours later, my migraine is raging! (and I have petichiae around one of the insertion points on my forehead.)

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Thanks,

Cyn

Although I have not had acupuncture yet, I have heard of this happening. I think this is part of the reason I keep putting it off. I've had the script for 6 months or so now.

We have someone that posts over on the Share Post side of the site that had experience with this. Her name is Winnie. Here is one of her share posts. From that one you can find others she has written about this very thing. She talks about acupuncture and how she feels. She was trying the more homeopathic approach to treatment. You may find her posts interesting.

I'm sure if others here have had this experience, they will jump in and let you know.

I'm sorry you are in pain! I hope it passes very quickly. Group Hug

Hey Cyn,

I had a really bad couple of experiences with acupuncture. To be fair, I even tried multiple practioners, just to make sure that it wasn't just one person's technique... but all were highly recommended by friends and other patients. Let's just say that I didn't visit any of them more than twice. Migraine pain went through the roof with all of them.

The petechiae may very well be a normal part of the acupuncture treatment- you didn't mention what type you had done. If they persist, you may want to check with your doctor about it!

Hope you're feeling better!

Oh wow, I'm so sorry! Even when going to to see my accupuncturist guy doesn't help much, it very definitely doesn't make them worse. My guy uses really thin needles and I only occasionally even see the sites where the needles were. Maybe accupresure?? would help?

I've had acupuncture well over 20 times and it never made me feel worse in any way, but everyone can be so different. I'm sorry it seems to have made you feel worse rather than better. Frowner

I only had four treatments but never bruised from the site. Could you call and ask your accupuncturist if this is normal? Perhaps you have been taking pain meds that could lead to increase bleeding/bruising? Just a thought.

I did not have increased pain after, so sorry that happened! Did you feel relaxed during the treatment? I actually got a migraine while I was on the table, full blown aura. i stopped going because of the cost and it was a good 40 min drive for me, too much when hurting!

but from everything I read it may take time, and multiple treatments. Isnt' that the way with everything? Good Luck!

It just goes to show how very different we all are in our responses to things. I do know of people who have had great success with accupuncture! Kate, I hope that is your experience.

To tell you the truth, I felt the nausea and pain escalating as I was on the table and asked the dr. about it. He said it would go away soon. When it didn't, I should have probably been more proactive and told him I was finished, but instead I laid there hoping I'd feel better.

I don't regret trying it - I just won't do it again. Please don't let my bad experience keep you from giving it a try!!
