Jamie,

You're SOOO right!

This is a very interesting thread! I've actually found that in the last seven months of almost constant headache pain, CST has been one of the few things to bring me relief. I haven't, however, gone to see anyone who does CST solely.

I'll share a quick thought on chiro care in general though, after reading all of your posts. I preface this with the fact that I'm learning to be very careful with my joints, as I've learned that I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (if you're at all interested, please learn about it at http://www.ednf.org --not enough people know about it!!) I actually think I've loosened up my neck though "crack" chiropractics... and it will never be the same--in certainly can screw you up! I didn't hear anyone mention, however, the newer types of chiropractic care. I'm not sure what they call it, but they won't do any manual adjustments, they just use this little metal tool to pop along your spine. It's not in the least bit painful, jarring, and doesn't run the risk of injuring your spine! I had a great chiro who did for me for a while. He also did CST adjustments... but there was never really any manual adjustments involved... it barely felt like he was doing anything--but I felt a lot of relief from it, at least for a while (the best I got from anything).

I would never go back to an old school chiro again, but I've actually been looking for someone who uses that tool who is knowledgeable and skilled (and not too pushy!) to add to my "team". My C2 vertebrae has a horrible time staying in place, so while having it cracked was quite horrifying (!) I'd love to have it taken care of.

I'm still getting some CST adjustments from physical therapist, as well as some manual movements of my neck (no cracking) where she moves it along it's path of motion. My guess is that CST, like most "adjustments" can go wrong. Things can get moved out of alignment just like they can be moved into alignment, maybe even a detox can be triggered? Whatever it was, it sounds truly horrific--I don't blame you for avoiding it like the plague from now on!! I figured I might as well chime in with my positive experiences... as limited as they are.

I get CST about once a month, the first few times I felt very yucky all day afterwards, but now I feel great, so much better and it keeps the migraines at bay for days.

maybe what i am getting is more gentle because it is a massage therapist doing it along with reki (sp?) Maybe you had a more intense version Jamie? I don't know. This is more like Myofascial release mixed with CST.

anyway I love what she does. magic hands.

I once had a DO crack my neck and I had a migraine for weeks straight. It was so awful, I thought maybe he broke something and another doctor suggested I have a CT scan again. I ended up with weeks of PT to correct the tension this created. I will NEVER EVER let anyone crack me again. On the other hand, my GP has me starting medical massage. I went for the first time. I mentioned to her that my occipital area is EXTREMELY sensitive and she did minimal work to it to start off...It was still sore and caused about a 5 headache, even when I put ice on it immediately after, but I am willing to go back next week, the rest ofm y body felt pretty good.....
