Hey Jamie!

I was sorry to hear about your negative experience with CST. My sister's boss does it as a side practice and she gave me a couple of free sessions (thank God they were free!). She warned me ahead of time that I might feel weepy afterward and would be very thirsty. She told me I should just take it easy after she got done with the therapy. To be honest, I didn't notice anything good or bad with the procedure. It certainly did not do anything to help my neck, but I can't say anything bad came of it. Would I pay for it to be done? Heavens, no! After hearing of your experience, I definitely will not try it again.

Actually, I had much better luck with a round of acupuncture several years ago. I got treated with 4-5 sessions over a two month period. The results? I did not have a migraine for exactly one year!! Not even a hint of a migraine during all that time. The bad news is, that when my migraines came back, they did so with a bang, and I had some killer migraines after that. I would have gone back to the same doc who gave me the acupuncture, but we had moved away from the area, and I was too lethargic (depression, anyone?) to actively search for another doctor who practiced acupuncture. I would try it again in a heartbeat, if my migraines got any worse today. I take Cymbalta, Propranolol and Imitrex tablets/injections, and this regimen seems to work well for me. The Cybalta has been a godsend, as it works on migraines and depression.

Well, I wish you the very best in your "migraine journey". Keep us informed of any new treatments and/or medications that you try. It is always so good to hear from you and others on what things you are trying and what works and doesn't work for you.

Take good care and have a pain-free week!

Kay

I've been going in for weekly treatments of a combination of massage and craniosacral therapy. My neck gets horribly stiff and painful with my migraines, and nothing I've tried in the past has been able to help with this. Oddly enough, though it is a slow process, the practitioner seems to be helping me some. I've tried acupuncture, other types of massage, physical therapy, meds, yoga - everything I could think of.

My practitioner is very gentle, and I haven't ever experienced any side effects from it. Just wanted to throw my experience out there to the mix. Smiler

Jamie I have just read all of this and I do feel for you. How awful. The massage therapist I go to, who also does reflexology, does deep tissue work on my neck and has helped it tremendously. Her refexology work has also been wonderful during my postdrome phase when I get very tense. I worship the woman.

She tells me to use alot of heat, I use a neck wrap tons, sometimes even at work. And I use a roller thing on my neck also that helps break up the knots. I've been acused of storing nuts for the winter in there!!

I'm a huge fan of heat- especially on my neck and elbow.
During a migraine, all I want is icey cold on my head, but other than that, I'm all about the heat.

My experience with CST is definitely not one that I'd ever want to repeat. However, I'm all about gentle massage. I may go get one next week when I'm trying to think of things to do in order to not go crazy from boredom!

Mmm, massage!

I was just thinking about trying this.

I found a - I don't know what the right word is....spa? That does all sorts of massages and holistic type stuff - not spa as in hair and nails.

Even just to go for a regular massage would be nice!

I'm thinking about it....I have to look over their menu more carefully. They have a lot of great services!
