I've tried to do some research on TMS on this forum (with a migraine today--ouch) prior to my neuro appointment, as I want to be very prepared prior to my appointment. Is the TMS treatment available now or still in clinical trials?

If anyone can point me in the right direction to a summary of the results of studies so far, I would be most grateful.

Thank you Wink

P.S. to my previous post....

I just found this article summarizing some aspects of the TMS study presented at the 6/27 AHS meeting. I was so disappointed to read that the principal investigator, Dr. Yousef Mohammad, of The Ohio State University, is also on the Board of Directors of the company that manufacturers the device (last sentence of article linked below). I've heard of neuros being consultants, etc. to pharmaceutical and other companies, but doesn't this mean this doctor could stand to directly profit from the results of his own research? If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I also didn't think the results sounded "promising" at all, with only 39% of patients pain-free after two hours. Although better than nothing, I'm sure this device will cost a fortune for what may be small results.

Here's the article stating Dr. Mohammad serves on the Board of Directors of the company that manufacturers the device. Do others get the same feeling I do when you read things like this? Excerpt: "Sunnyvale, California-based NeuraLieve, the manufacturer of the TMS device used in the study, funded the work. Mohammad serves on the company's board of directors."

TMS hasn't been FDA-approved yet, but it's getting there. While 39% doesn't necessarily sound promising, some of the meds we take have an even lower success rate. (I can't find any info on this right now, so I could be wrong - mods, please correct me if I am.)

Anyway, this article may give you more info: Zapping Migraine Shows Promise

Thanks, MJ, for the info and the link to the article. I always forget to research articles as well as the forum. I think I was being greedy about my lack of enthusiasm for the 39% pain-free response in the trial, as after all these years triptans work only marginally for me and I stick with the one that works the best, which is only about 30%, taken the extreme edge off. At least TMS is a step in a non-medication and different direction.

BTW, if I'm not here 4 days from today, pre- HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Flower

Wishing you pain-free days, and especially so on your 25th birthday! I hope you have an absolute blast celebrating your special day.
