Thought I'd start a new thread in following Michelle's that began in March. My migraines increased to 4 or 5 a month, making me a candidate for a preventative, according to my doctor. I have always tried to solve my health issues holistically whenever possible, with much success. So, I asked him if he would give me a few months to try acupuncture and/or massage therapy.
I've been to the acupuncturist three times, once a week for three weeks. The first time I went, I got a migraine five hours later, but have not had one since. Over the past year I have gotten a migraine after every sail boat race I've been in. There have been two races since I started treatment, and no migraines. I'm still not convinced that it is not a coincidence, but I am remaining open minded. I have an appointment for two weeks from now, but he said to cancel it if I do not get a migraine. He's obviously not in it for the money. The massage therapy is deep tissue on my head, neck, and shoulders. Not pleasant, but I can feel my knots disappearing with each treatment. I just started yoga today, and boy am I out of balance! I am watching my diet closely now, too. Since I just started all this stuff in mid-September, I'm not sure how it will work. I don't expect to be cured and no one has said they can cure me, but fewer migraines would be nice. At this point, giving up sailing is not an option. It's in my DNA. If anything, I'm getting my body healthy and in alignment so that if I do have to go on a daily med, my body will help it work more efficiently and effectively. I'll keep everyone posted. Win |

Hi Winnie!
I am very interested in learning more about acupuncture. My cousin uses it for her fibromyalgia. She SWEARS by it! She's had almost no symptoms since starting acupuncture! She went for treatments for about 3 months and hasn't had to go for two years! I'm seriously considering giving this a shot. My only hesitation is that I tried acupressure and had VERY BAD results... Anyway, keep us posted about how you do over the next few months! I know we're all different and we all respond to treatments differently, but I'm definitely interested in learning more! Thanks! |

Winnie, it sounds like you may have cut out some triggers in your life along with leading a more healthy lifestyle. Good for you. I hope it continues.

I'm thinking you pretty much ROCK, Winnie!
If you want to throw some weight into that convincing that the holistic approach is helping and it's not just coincidence, I'll be happy to play along and back it with you! Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |

Good for you, I hope the accupuncture is not just "coincidence". I too have started accupuncture, have been going for almost 3 months. The first four sessions resulted in post treatment migraine, but I was told to expect it. I was told to keep taking my meds when they occurred and I did. Only one was a bear to get under control.
For my first 3 treatments, I was going weekly. After that I was asked to come 2x a week to speed up progress. I did that for 4 weeks, then back to 1x week. While I've not been migraine free, I've not had any migrianes immediately after treatement as I did the first 4 weeks. Due to my work, I've not had a treatment in 2 weeks now, and I'm seeing where I think the treatments WERE effective. However, it is expensive and it isn't eliminating my needs for daily pain meds, but it is reducing the need for breakthrough pain meds. UGH..the choices we must make! However, I do wish you continued success with accupuncture. ~ To dream, if only! |

I'm pretty spiffy, thanks. Things are a little hectic as of late with the whole church board scene, but I seem to have managed to stop the latest cyclic stretch of mig beasties, so I can't complain. Overall it's all good!
